I wonder if Disney might try and tie it in with the Blu-ray release of Capt. America...

A movie being shown in HD on cable means nothing in regards to a Blu-ray release. All it means is that they have an HD master that could hypothetically be used for such.

ORFF, enable secondary audio on your player. PiP audio will not work with bitstream either. Read your manual for details

In the meantime, some wise words from Robocop himself

thank you Jeff for confirming!!!!!!!!!!

i'm so glad that the consumer feedback directly to Disney (including mine) does actually work!!!!!!!!! that's amazing!!!

unfortunately Ponyo-luvs still have import to get lossless audio ='( i wonder when Laputa and Yamada will come to BD! =) very much looking fwd to them as well w/lossless and correct subtitles =)

I did check out the subtitle issue. I can't find my gold cover Kiki right now, but I see what you mean with Laputa. It's interesting. It doesn't match either the dub or the proper translation. I wonder if it's just the closed captioning script without the cues. Totoro seemed fine though. Someone probably grabbed the wrong script, frequently those types are used for European distribution where people are looking for a crutch, for whom English is a second language.

Pretty sure you're just going to have to bite the bullet on Ponyo tho, if you want lossless.

The biggest problem with Nausicaa BTW is the production at the time. The movie bounces from razor sharp to soft and everything in-between. This is characteristic of anime of the time period when everything was a rush job. What's really interesting is that the more layers of cels, the softer it gets

the subtitle issue isn't just Laputa a lot of the earlier Ghibli's have this issue. i think the latter ones do not or have less issues as it became more 'standard'.

it might mean nothing.. but i've noticed a lot of movies that are shown in the uk/ireland on sat hd tend to end up on blu-ray in the coming months... i wonder when the studios do new HD masters fo they send them to the broadcast stations for broadcast? Disney HD is an exception though.. they have showed Mary Poppins and The Rocketeer in HD for a while now.. with no blu-ray in sight

You're simply applying human nature to look for patterns. What about the hundreds that don't While I'm sure there are deals made along those lines, there's no feeder ramp, and most of those would take the form of "if you want Cars 2 you have to take 10 other movies"

Hey Jeff,

Do you have any idea the likelihood of Region A seeing something like the French L'Illusionniste - Les Triplettes de Belleville two-pack arrive? Or, failing that, any release of one or (preferably) both of them?

I don't know who owns the first one, but Sony owns Belleville
I never saw it, because the trailer annoyed the crap out of me, but I would assume that it's less likely to be a high priority due to nitch status

Jeff,

Can you explain what force in hell seems to make hollywood think that Shia Lebeouf would actually make a good Bourne?

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exc...e-legacy-12756

Seriously.

I don't know a single person that really likes any role he has played in any movie, but yet hollywood seems to think he works great in any role.

His best role IMO was in I'Robot.

Any time they're doing something like this they throw every actor who could fit who's made money up on the wall. He'll screen test, and turn his switch to "serious puppydog whiny" instead of "whiny sarcastic" and they won't cast him

I really hope he's banking that Transformers money, cause no one will take him seriously about he hits 30-35

What usually makes me cringe about LeBouf is that he's kind of like Tom Cruise: always the same character with various different circumstances to go with the different names and supposedly different backgrounds. He's got no range to his roles and is typecast.

Tom Cruise is Gary Oldman compared to LeBeof, if for no other reason than "Tom Cruise" can be shoehorned into a much greater variety of roles. LeBeof's 2 characters are all stuck at 16 years old

I watched Wallstreet 2 and he was TERRIBLE in it. Completely the wrong fit. It actually wasn't a bad film, but it would have been a lot better without such a bratty kid for the role. It could have done without Carey Mulligan too.

That was a good role and one of the few that differed from his type. As did the Tropic Thunder cameo.

But c'mon, he's the same cocky, young guy in 90% of the rest of his filmography. Changing his hair to grey in Collateral didn't really change his character, though... which could have well been the Mission Impossible guy after he was done flying F-14's or bartending.

Jeff,

any more news on more catalog TV series on Blu-Ray? i see that more and more TV shows like Glee or WB stuff is being released on Blu-Ray, but most of those are recent season.

will TV studios begin to unleash catalog titles... or do they think it's too expensive to remaster to 1080p?

They will be VERY selective. Many old shows have 1080p masters already. The problem is the expense of doing, making and putting discs on the shelves

It's pretty easy to guess what titles have the best shot. Moral of the story, don't count on it, be happy when it happens. I just wouldn't count on anything that is targeted over the people who are currently 40

How about those that are mid-thirties (Twin Peaks)?

I know, you can't elaborate. I just couldn't help pointing out the closeness of Twin Peaks to hitting that cutoff you mention above.
