I believe that this is correct. I did some research into AVC and it seems to me that 'ignoring the flags' is not a trivial matter either. It is not a situation where you can take the flags away and it all becomes 24p - you need to reflag the data to be correct for 24p output.

I could easily see compatibility issues coming in down the line depending on the way they handle this and the output of different decoders.

Like I said, googling will probably be an exercise in futility. Best to walk over to one’s extensive Blu-ray collection (or even DVD’s) on one’s shelf or what not and just peruse the titles you have there and……… think.

Paidgeek, I spoke with a rep at a local home theater retailer here. They carry high end stuff and have reps that ussually know what they are talking about. I asked about Sony 1.1 players and he said that the first one won't be coming out until July of next year. This place has pretty good relationships with manufacturers, if this was coming from a BB or CC rep I wouldn't be asking, but can you confirm or deny this?

There is a title out there that has a very short segment of music from a famous Tahitian dance that my Vahine used to demonstrate back in the day when I was footloose and fancy-free called the Tamure.
I will tell you that I am not thinking of the movie Mutiny on the Bounty which may be the first thing coming to the mind of some but, it is a title that I venture alot of you guys and gals either own in your Blu-ray collection or have watched in the past.

Just to be a little more clear, I think WB just wants to see things sold, but will count the box set as more even if Nielsen doesn't. That is, I don't think WB cares that much whether a person buys the individuals or the box set, but won't give 5x the credit for buying the individuals like Nielsen will. If they are the same price then I think buying the individuals makes some sense, but if a person were to save say $10 by buying the box set I think Blu-ray would be better off with them getting it and then using that $10 toward another Blu-ray purchase at some point.

Thanks. I figured maybe they owned some from the past. Also figured they might own some GE stock, but that company is so big that I'm not sure they would have much influence. If they do own a bunch then a call saying that they would like to see Universal support Blu-ray probably couldn't hurt though.

So, it’s easier to complain that *the Dracula BD looks darker than the superbit version*, when the damn discs come from different film elements.

Which reminds me, even that AVS thread(referred to above) has some inaccurate observations and conclusions…….

There really is no difference as if everybody bought the singles the Nielsen ratio for the boxset would be terrible and vice-versa.

Max, one big difference, in the VS numbers the box set counts as 1 and the individuals (if you buy all of them) as 5

I have just noticed that at my local dvd store (ezydvd - Australia) they have anounced sunshine to be released early next year. As i understand it this will be the profile 1.1 version. We currently already had sunshine released here earlier this year. Is this going to be a trend where current released titles are re released as 1.1 versions or is this just an issue with different region releases. I just want to know before i write my list for Santa.

True but on amazon, the 5 individuals come out to be 20 cents cheaper than the set. so, with it being a virtual wash, I think it's better for blu if we get individuals to help the numbers. Personally, I like to have individuals when there's a choice (as with the Die Hard movies.)

I know I am not an insider but: Sony isn't ready yet but the Panasonic is already out.

I have heard on other sites and here I believe that Sony wants to allow some of the other manufactures to get their product out first to ensure cooperation and fair competition. Paidgeek is this true? And Any comment on the above street date for the next round of Sony branded BD players

Tomorrow my friend is the High Def 2.0 Conference.

To me, this is the most significant event right now prior to CES 2008.

At tomorrow's event, no one from Toshiba, Microsoft, Universal, or Paramount will be there.

Thus, no representative from any HD DVD supporting company will attend this conference.

Why is that?

My guess is that the HD DVD companies are deliberately boycotting this event to protest the fact that Home Media Magazine has posted the Nielsen/Videoscan sales ratios and Top 10 selling High Def titles for every week this year and, of course, those numbers have not been too kind to HD DVD.

Am I on to something or am I just smoking some good shit?
