Paid,

I have a bdp-s1 player. Which profile is it and how far can it be upgraded? It does have the latest firmware and plays the Pirates movies. I am asking because I am a little confused. I am planning to upgrade to something with 1.3 but I want to get the most out of my next purchase.

Thanks...

Hmm,
Well then perhaps he can tell us (on the Commentary thread, as he is not an “Insider” on this forum) why on earth did it take direct intervention by Steven Spielberg to *encourage* Paramount to fund the restoration of Francis Coppola’s Godfather series, which Paramount didn’t want to do in the first place.

And since he is a news guy, then perhaps he attended this………………

http://www.oscars.org/events/past/20...ed_4/july.html
(scroll down to “Additional Films in the Series Include”- Godfather III)

where Francis C. stated as much during the Q and A.

Also, since he has an affinity to obtaining numbers and pushing them endlessly on AVMS…… in regards to the above major faux paus with the Godfather series, I would love to know what the budget is of the Asset Management Dept. over at Paramount so that we all then could figure out on our calculators exactly how that compares to the restoration budgets of other major Hollywood studios.

It would seem to me that those figures would be much more pertinent to true real-world film aficionados rather than………….% yields of BD50 discs, whatever the heck they are.

In other words what other film classics in Paramount's vault may be ignored to save a buck ?

Guys, Gals,
I hadn’t planned on attending CEDIA but, there’s a rumor going around that some people attending will be throwing eggs at Amir at the conference and that each person will only be allocated 2 eggs due to the low yields by the chickens on the local farms.

First off, I don’t believe in such rumors (or such behavior for that matter) and secondly, I don’t think the chickens have any yield issues whatsoever in the grand scheme of things (they’re always smiling when I look at them).

Anyway, I’m getting on da plane to Denver in a couple hours and after that it’s a screening of Across the Universe at 550 Madison Ave in da big Apple to press the flesh with the invitees.

Out.

P.S.
fwiw, Paidgeek is also leaving town today and I have no idea whether or not he’ll be answering any of your questions since he last posted.

Where the heck is talkstr8t ?

Thanks for the link, kjack.
It apparently went unnoticed.

Sorry for the confusion. I want to purchase a new Blu-ray player with HDMI 1.3 support. However, I was holding off until after October because I thought that the new players will include all the fancy profile goodies such as PIP and BD Live, etc. But then I started reading about profiles 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 and that is the source for my confusion.

And then I started wondering which profile was built into my player and how far can it be upgraded. If I am understanding the dialog the BDP-S1 will be able to play any current and future Blu-ray movie (basic movie playback) and that is all I really care about for now.

What's the AVS video format? The only thing that rings a bell is avisynth, and that's a scripting format for streaming audio and video on windows computers, which doesn't sound right.

I just want to know where are these big announcements for blu. we were told something was coming, now it's been 2 weeks since the paramount news and nada. I know it's the first day of cedia but i'm disappointed by the casualness of the blu camp. tranformers was just announced so BDA better counterpunch with something big.

Tech specs include 1080p video (codec still TBA) and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround audio only -- surprisingly (and disappointing for early adopters) Paramount has not announced any high-resolution audio support for 'Transformers.'
I knew this **** was going to happen. HD DUD fans can cheer that the superior version of all paramount movies is canned.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=903053

8 page *****fest... apparently a lot of DUD fans finally realize that it's the Look OR Sound of Perfect. A little late.

Go to the AVS forum and check it out for a big laugh. DUDers are saying dolby digital is good enough for transformers, they're saying as long as the special features are great who cares about lossless sound. I'm still laughing. their crappy format ran out of space.

If Transformers, Shrek 3 and cheap POS Chinese made players are their big announcements (again??? Weren't all these made IFA and pre-IFA???) then blu has nothing to fear.

HD-DVD fans and insiders were saying that "BIG" announcements were going to be made at CEDIA. Yeah? Bring it on.

It's a new audio and video codec standard being deployed within China. I guess the significance of it blew over everybody's heads...
