From what I recall, back when I read the AVS Insider's thread regularly….. few questions to paidgeek or Talkstr8t or even kjack were sincere questions by people asking for helpful information about the Blu-ray format.

If the AVS abuse continues, and Talkstr8t just can’t tolerate it anymore (kinda reminds me of when Bill Hunt made his last appearance on AVS and he was practically stoned to death )....... then we can always send Talk to another forum (for diversification of getting the Blu word out) where the administration appreciates the presence of insiders and apparently knows how to deal with antagonist red ants…..

and their members actually watch movies at home rather than spend all evening thinking up ways to cross swords with an insider the next day on AVS.

I notice that Bill Hunt guards his words VERY carefully in his daily columns of late, and seems to put in qualifiers about trying not to slam HD-DVD. He must get SO much hate mail from the FUD'ers. And he's just trying to support the winning side in an unpopular war.

I have little love for HTF. It's the ultimate hobbyist site, moderated with a very heavy hand, doesn't respect the privacy of its members, and their "neutrality" stance reeks of passive-aggressive compulsions. Plus, it's the home to the Dave Macks of this world.

What karmic debt is poor Talk paying off, anyway?

I try to suppoert him as much as I can. I also sent he a PM thanking him. He is doing a very effective job in answering questions and he has more than effectively neutralized (neutered ) Amir. I admire his no BS responses. I believe a lot af people read his responses. The thing that bugs me is that about three of four die hard pro HD-DVD supporters are asking 99% of the questions and they ask the same questions over and over again, hoping to get a different answer.

He may be guarding his words, but he still gets hate mail from the FUD'ers. Trust me, anyone who puts out information about either side of this war gets hate mail.

He’s not paying off any karmic debt.
Truth be told, when you have a red ant infestation, you simply send in the guy who has the biggest feet in an attempt to squash as many as you can.

Rumor has it, Talk wears size 12.

I suppose that’s one of the good things about AVS …………meaning, if you don’t have time or the inclination to read their Insider’s Thread and decide to go away and come back after 6 months or so, you discover that upon your return, that you haven’t missed a damn thing in the interim-- as the same arguments are perpetually going on with the sole Blu-ray insider and nothing new has happened since your absence!

Talkstr8t’s purpose there is to correct FUD, even if he has to beat the truth into their heads ad nausea with essentially the same post rephrased with different words. You will get little cutting edge Blu-ray news there, as that is not his mission.

today I was trying to teach HD-DVD fanboys the differance between Standalone and dedicated, they were saying the PS3 is not a standalone, because it does gaming, but then went on to call the 360 add-on a standalone I think I finally got through to them

To be fair...the 360 Add On is a stand alone player. You have to choose to buy it, and the only purpose that it serves is to play HD-DVDs. It does not help the 360 run better, it does not (to my knowledge) play any X-Box games, MS has stated multiple times that they will not produce games on HD-DVD and alienate the core users. So the sole purpose for the add on is to play HD-DVDs.

The PS3 on the other hand is not a stand alone. The majority of PS users do not use the PS3 for its ability to play Blu-Ray movies. Most use it for gaming. I'd like to see a fair percentage of PS3s be counted as blu-ray players, but in reality, I don't think it will ever happen. The numbers are out there in software sales. Blu-ray is winning. That's ultimately what matters.

Sorry if you may have covered this before, but after reading this, it sounds as if you guys have specific "assignments" to certain forums. Is this the case and is it done by your employers? Or, is it just a "backyard football play, drawn up on the fly" kinda thing?

Thanks again for yours and all the insiders' hard work.

stand-a·lone /ˈstændəˌloʊn/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[stand-uh-lohn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation Computers.
–adjective
1. self-contained and able to operate without other hardware or software.
–noun
2. a device or program with these characteristics.

that does not describe the 360 add-on... however I think it more accurately describes the PS3

That's very interesting. By that definition the PS3 IS a standalone! Personally, I think it's all splitting hairs. Any way you slice it, Blu-ray is leading in sales.

Would you be satisfied if I changed the word to "dedicated" player instead of standalone?

I believe that the context in which it is used indicates dedicated more so than standalone; although, if you read the second definition of standalone that was linked, but not pasted into your argument, it would apply to both.

Regardless, the insider thread isn't the best place to have this discussion. If you'd like to invest some time into copy and pasting some of our conversation into a new thread, I'd like to hear other member's thoughts on the topic. If not, I can't blame you. I didn't want to spend the time to do it. :P I think we can agree that we're on the same side here, and it's just a game of semantics.

The insiders receive a lot of complaints, and people criticize the BDA on a daily basis. I want to give props to the BDA and expecially Disney. AWESOME new Blu-ray commercials for "I DO Blu" and for "POTC 1,2,3". Great job by all involved! I have seen the HD DVD commercial, and it stinks. The visuals in the Blu-ray commercials are outstanding, and being shown in Universal HD

To be totally technically correct, the 360 add-on could never be considered a stand alone player. You can't use it without a xbox 360. So it can't be stand aloone.

So, is there any new information out there that will help me stay Blu? I have seen some really good titles coming out on HD-DVD, and I am starting to sway.... I have been Tru-Blu from the start and have a PS3 and S-300, but with new Sci-Fi shows coming out I am thinking of going neutral, plus unless WB goes totally Blu this war will be dragged out for some time.. I guess I am posting this in the insiders thread because it would be great to hear some good news, like HD-DVD is going belly up.

Paidgeek I know that you can't say but please do, on the newly announced "Across The Universe" will it get some elevated audio? like 24/96 or maybe higher?

Please, I hope it will. Anyways thanks for the good work you and the team does on all BD:s from Sony.
