Wow. It's very reassuring to know that it's the overall numbers that will sway their decision!

Looks like it's showdown time ladies and gentlemen!

... and Blades of Glory was to be a Blu-ray title also right up to the "official announcement".

So true. They are not going to do anything but repeat previous quotes, which is exactly what this was, until they are damn good and ready to make the final announcemnet. And I highly doubt the final announcement to come out of Australlia.

hah.

it occurs to me that my mother has deemed it my responsibility to build my parents' movie collection in their vacation home. it's admittedly a little embarrassing for a married 32 yo professional with a child on the way to be tasked with something like this, but this does seem to have certain advantages at this point... especially since total price is really no barrier.

of course, my innate sense of fiduciary responsibility to my parents demands that at least i wait for deals before shelling out their hard-earned bucks. but hey, numbers be numbers.

No, not yet, so keep buying those WB Blu-rays this holiday season and when we look back in retrospect on this situation we can all proudly claim that we won this thing truly on consumer merit- so that the red ants never cry foul as other dominos fall successively.
...
For those who don't like Warner, don't stop buying their titles because of it, but hit the HP titles like mad, especially OOTP...WB are watching.

Default suggestion for paidgeek (no 7669 test pictures on Sharp player)

paidgeek,

on the Sharp BD player the 7669 code for calibration pictures on Sony BDs does not work and they have no intention to provide this function. Perhaps it would be a better idea to put the pictures just in the menu like the THX optimode pictures on DVDs? That way they could be used on every player.

Our company produces custom DVDs and BDs. Back when DVD was fledgling we would have these debates on the DVD forums. We would say 'DVD is going to be big and fast' and others would say it would be decades if ever. Well, we were right. (Any old-timers here remember that?) And, this feels the same.

So let me go out on a limb here and say I expect Blu-Ray adoption to accelerate. The factors: the upcoming DTV transition in the US, lowering HDTV prices, increasing consumer understanding of 1080p etc, but most importantly, I think, the Blu-Ray team is on-the-ball.

On the denials

WB has shown over the years that the only international divisions more disconnected from the real movements of the parent is Universal. They will deny everything until instructed not to
