Hey Penton,

Does it specifically have to be WB titles? or are they looking at overall #'s?

Guys,

forgive a non-insider jumping in to rally the Blu-ray Troops. Everyone supporting BD reading this thread. Do two things:

1. Update your Signature to show the Blu-ray Disc titles you WILL BE BUYING this December, before January 1. Make that list grow, and go heavy on the Warner Titles. Real Heavy.

2. Buy them.

Let's send WB a nice welcome message from the Blu Consumer Community. If there are any counter-offers and political pressures threatening what we hope is true, let's add some weight to the Blu side of the scale.

Remember the decision will be made by TimeWarner execs not Warner the studio.
Just like the Paramount deal was done with Viacom the parent company.

RIGHT, and that is our big advantage. cause nobody on the twx board is a format fanboy that trasferred over from MS or Tosh in the past 3 years, they are business men and they will see blu-ray is trouncing hd dvd all over the world.

Is there a reason why DIVX (the video codec, not the format from the DVD days) isn't used in Blu-ray and HD-DVD players?

Didn't SCEA mention they would be including DIVX playback in a very near future update? Or was that just some blog?

DaVid is correct.

This is your time, take advantage of it the best you can with Blu-ray purchases, esp. WB Blu-ray discs.
At this point, you want WB not to have any excuse not to go Blu exclusive -because if we all don’t take advantage of this holiday window, ya all may just as well put your collective feet up on your desk and wait until holiday season 2008-2009 when the next big perfect storm presents itself to run up the score …..
1. Many consumers buying HD TV sets.
2. Many consumers buying Blu-ray players for those TV sets.
3. Many consumers buying Blu-ray discs.

P.S.
The Blade Runner stuff is a collector’s dream for home theatre.

Re: Blade Runner.

Now if Warner ships it to me in the next three months I'll be happy.

Thanks Penton.

As Max said, Divx and Xvid are seen as pirate formats by the studios

You will not see professional product encoded in them, probably ever outside of some gaming companies who have gotten good deals to use their codec (which works well. It's fairly low overhead and packs small so as not to take up a lot of HD space on PC games) in games, but for the most part no one has any illusions as to why people want it on players

Quick question re: Buy Warner movies. Already bought a crap load of their stuff, and just received all my 5 Potters (individual titles). And I said I'd never order from WHV site again (you all know what that's like) but to help the cause, I figured I'd go ahead and order some stuff from 'em. Since they don't report to Neilsens, is this a good idea? I know Warner will know the numbers sold, but Neilsens won't. And second, thinking about pre-ordering Shoot 'em Up releasing 1/1/08. Will that be counted in the holiday sales?

You will just see (and are already seeing) a shift to x264. Divx/xvid are just more mature and stable at this point.

You are correct that the WHV store does not count towards Neilsens. With that being said though, Warner are most interested in numbers for Q4 and they will have access to their own numbers from the store so I think you'll be safe either way.

Yes, it will hang in the balance of your credit card bill.

I got six more WB myself during the last sale.

Buy up! lets win this.

I can't buy any more Blu's except new releases because my wife got at least one for me from Amazon for Christmas and I don't want to buy it by accident, nor do I want to spoil the surprise...

So I can't even get Pirates 3 but I did get HP5. And I have ordered 3 WB movies to give her (that I'm not interested in so I know she didn't buy them for me hehehe)

TW aren't the most integrated company so they probably have even less of an idea of what is planned than I do.
Does that mean something IS planned?

Or just something might be planned?

For those with the Amazon 10% discount, remember it is supposed to expire at the end of the year! So catch up on those releases you missed This week is a good week to do that!

I had to go and buy new ones today (Not coming to Blu anytime soon ), I'm already low on money, what with anniversary gifts and Xmas presents to buy.
Why isn't your sister buying you new ones? (sorry, OT, but I'm curious)

Im game, I purchased lots of Warner titles in December and I hope that all of us do the same!

I didn't want to believe much about the Warner rumor at first, but now even the red camp is writing (Rob Enderle) about Warner going Blu! That and all the talk by the insiders is making me believe!
