hey paidgeek - do you happen to know if the master of Spider-man 3 is in 24/96 or if everything was set at 24/48.
I know at lot of times the music can be at 24/96 with everything else being recorded at 24/48, but I know there was also a movement recently to get everything at 24/96.
Was Spidey at 24/96 and if so do you think we'll see this at 24/96 TrueHD whgen it comes to Blu-ray later this year?

Will Premonition have a TrueHD track and if so do you know the bit depth? Thanks for all the time you've been spending answering questions here this year. It's really been a huge help.

Here's a real whopper of questions: can BDs be authored in such a way that the disc checks to see if you want the movie to play automatically (with the warning preceeding it) or you want the disc menu to play first?

If the former is possible, can it be made in such a way that the disc knows which audio and subtitles options you want the movie to play with, to the extent that the disc downloads an unavailable audio or subtitles first before playback can start?

This seems to me like BD-Live territory. Thanks paidgeek. ($2)

What you are asking for is possible, but since there is no 'play order preference' flag, each studio would have to use player memory to keep track of the user preference and the user would have to make this choice for each studios product.

The audio and subtitle preferences are easier because this can already be set in the player and read by the disc.

No BD-live required for these...

Another hypothetical situation, what if I pay a small monthly fee so my player can skip the fbi warnings, those insulting piracy informercials, and previews? Another suggestion, what if my player downloads previews at night, I watch them, rate them, indicate whether I'll see the movie when it comes out, etc.. and in turn I get to skip the aforementioned nuisances?
I'm sure the studios would be happy to send you trailers, previews and so on with your BD-live connected player. It is not likely that they will let you pay a fee to skip trailers and warnings for the aforementioned fact that we have a legal need to show the warnings preceding the program. It is not a problem to skip the warnings after they have been viewed once and we have been doing this on DVD for some time, (though I don't know if it has been consistently as I have not checked in a while.)

Is it leaps and bounds/night and day difference or is it marginal improvements that, apparently according to reviews, should have been there to begin with (I am one of the few who are actually satisfied with it; the LPCM audio was worth it alone)? Also, what is the the resolution of the Dolby TrueHD track included on this release?
If you have a 2Mpixel display and you sit closer that 3 picture heights, the difference between the two is dramatic. Even if you don't have the above conditions, the dirt and scratch clean-up is a big improvement.

The Dolby THD track is 16 bit as is the LPCM since this is all that was available on the master (this was typical at that point in time). This title is one of the rare instances where you can do a direct comparison and should be able to get identical performance from either stream.

It is not in the production pipeline as far as I can tell. Don't miss it when it comes out though...

Any comments on the Air Force One master? I always thought the DVD looked a little soft.

So will I.

Briefly off topic, my seats for the F1 GPC are Sec 8 Row A 3 and 4. Right on the hairpin in front of Kubica's crash. Scary moment, great race overall.

paidgeek,

I read a report about a showing of part of The Sound of Music on a Sony 4k projector at Infocomm which said that it was incredible. Can you tell us anything about a release of this one on Blu-ray?

Thanks,
Darin

Premonition just showed up today and it just includes PCM, no TrueHD. The same goes for The Patriot, Wild Things, and Flatliners.

paidgeek,

since we're on the topic of Professionals (and somewhat The Fifth Element), are there any plans for a BD release of Leon: The Professional or any of Luc Besson's other Columbia Pictures releases? i.e. The Messenger, The Big Blue, Subway, etc.?

I'd love to see more Besson too. The Japanese Superbit of The Messenger still looks terrific for DVD. Every DVD release of Leon, including superbit, on the other hand and The Big Blue to a lesser extent had some issues that appear to stem from the master.

Note I said RErelease.

One of the oldest, popular DVD titles never got the SE treatment, and the only other version was a Superbit, which dropped the commentary and trailer from the original DVD.

BD is a chance, and this year is the 10th Anniversary.

They normally don’t, even when I post things that have absolutely nothing to do with the format war but are a response to a very well respected forum member patiently waiting for the production and debut of a high-end camera (at least for amateur shooters).

For example, today I posted this which is no longer there-

Michel,
Now that this…………..
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?...jKWa2w&refer=us
is a done deal, I expect Jimbo to be putting more time/effort and attention into his true passion.

mhafner (michel) responds here……………
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&#post10855256

I can only surmise that either some mod doesn’t like Oakley sunglasses for some reason (Jim J. does have a rather litigious nature ), or somebody didn’t like my mushroom analogy on the rant thread.

Makes no dif, just a continuing example of their biased moderation extending to an extreme to Target me.
I just have to learn to float like a butterfly (under the M$ sponsored radar) and sting like a bee.

I wonder if my A.A. would be willing to do my postings at midnight.

Slightly off-topic in noticing your location................
Dang, what I would do for a Philly cheese steak and pretzel now while hauling my bike over the bridge to play in the pines in Jersey.

Oh, memories…………

Are you talking to me ?

If so……
Unless everyone and his uncle goes on a prolonged weekend trip to Vegas baby, you should expect (count on ) a little newsworthy stuff next week.

that's how I took it ::shrugs::

I’m actually not in the official sense of the word, “an insider for them”, we just are good friends and travel in the same circles.

Good people.
As well as Uni for that matter, just a little misguided, currently.
