I just hope whatever drunken lemurs are handling the Zaentz catalog hand it off to someone else. Bakshi's LOTR has a weak Blu-ray, Amadeus has a weak Blu-ray (of the DC to boot), OFOTCN is an abject failure, The Unbearable Lightness Of Being only has a DVD, and At Play In The Fields Of The Lord has only a stealth DVD from MC (anyone heard anything about that?) and dead formats.

These are some of the greatest movies ever, and they're being woefully mistreated on home video. The studios should be ashamed.

Gateway Film Center is advertizing a 4K restoration of this film. Anyone here knows if the current blu-ray was from a 4K restoration already? I don't think it's likely to be the case, because it came out in 2008, but you never know.

Even if that was a 4K restoration, Warners will likely do another for a UHD, they redid North by Northwest for the upcoming UHD, even though the 2011 BD was from an 8K remaster.

I agree. That said, I don't think that the blu-ray is from a 4K restoration. If I'm correct, then the 4K restoration for an UHD release is already finished, with Warner only waiting for the special anniversary next year.

No matter what though: for such a tremendously iconic and popular film, the surprise/shock would be it not getting an UHD next year. Amadeus is getting one this year, and that film is owned by Paul Zaentz, just like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

I agree.

It's great news that all these 70s classics have 4K restorations all showing at that festival.

Suggests UHDs are coming for them from Warners or Criterion or some other boutique label.

I'll snap up a UHD for most of them in a heartbeat, especially Network, it's one of my favorite films and one of the greatest films ever made and the BD transfer is ancient.
