It looks like Dances With Wolves was released on Blu-ray in France yesterday (the extended edition no less, with AVC/English DTS-HD MA 5.1, though the entire four-hour movie and two hours of SD supplements were crammed onto one disc). Does this mean a U.S. version will be landing on our shores soon?

So will a 50GB Blu-ray be enough for the EE's? As much as it pains me I'm assuming they will be using TrueHD for all these because DTS-HD MA would take more space on the disc.

Jeff,
You sure Jurassic Park 4 is still moving forward? Check the link below. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=51101 |

A DTS-HD soundtrack by itself will take up more space than a TrueHD track, but when you consider that you need a legacy DOlby Digital Track to be present as well TrueHD might actually take up more space.

TrueHD is better. There seems to be bugs with DTS that cause speaker popping sometimes or cause a DTS HD MA track to play as DTS HD HR. Whoever's to blame for this, the fact is TrueHD has never had any issue like this AFAIK so something about TrueHD (or someone at Dolby) makes it easier to implement without these hiccups. Also, TrueHD has better volume or dialogue normalization tags. Even before the HD versions, I always thought DTS sounded too "raw"

Under reasonable production circumstances, it should be no problem.
Why does it pain you? Given the same source, they produce the same product. Do you own DTS stock? |

Hopefully PJ decides to go with DTS HD-MA. I mean, if WB didn't obsorb NL we would have had DTS on the discs. So here's hoping. More than likely it will only be TrueHD. I don't have a problem with that either since that is better than DD, but a DTS track would be nice.

Very disappointing. Now he and Warner have to respect my decision to not buy the theatrical versions on bluray. No EE = No sale. That's my final say on the matter. I've voiced my frustrations and Ill leave it at that. Anyone else can justify the decision all you want, but you're not going to convince me that theatrical only is for the greater good. I agree, I have the LOTR EEs on DVD, and have never watched any of the extras at all. I would like to have the EEs on Blu-ray, and certainly won't buy the theatrical versions, so they're just delaying getting my money if they delay the EEs to add more extras that I will never watch.

Another difference between TrueHD and DTS HD MA is that some receivers will do better post-processing (if sent bitstream of course) on the TrueHD than on the DTS HD MA. Some receivers may not even do any post-processing on DTS HD MA. Same may be true of players (when sending LPCM) ... don't know.
Of course purists will not want any post-processing done. But I found out DTS HD MA supports more channels than TrueHD (which is limited to 14). I'd much rather have home video supporting 16.1 surround sound than having some 3D, especially if it requires glasses or they don't remove the eye strain/headache problems that persists for some people (like me) even with the newest technologies at theaters. |

Yes Yes I know they are both lossless. I just prefer the more "raw" balls-to-the-wall DTS-HD MA soundtracks. |

Rumor tells that Apollo 13 is due early next year, probably January.
Finally something from Universal to consider buying. |
