Jeff and Bill, just wondering when more anime is expected to hit blu-ray, the selection from that genre is really pitiful so far.

Just an article to read with your morning coffee. Has some
interesting statistics, but nothing blu-rat specific.

Hmmmmm......does the even dearer one contain the theatrical & "director" cut? (ie, not the extended as well)
Does it have the same extras as the upcoming US release?
Yes to both cuts but not the alternate ending cut. I believe it has all past extras, but does not contain the new ones

It's no wonder really, it is clearly the best one in the series. I never understood why people (I should call them Trekkies) liked Khan. I usually skip the second film totally, although it will be harder to follow the third one, which I actually skip too..
Khan is an epic, operatic battle between two titans, desperite odds, fantastic submarine style starship combat, tragedy, revenge, it's got it all

I think one of the points coolmilo is making is new release titles are sometimes cheaper AFTER their debut. There have been several titles cheaper in week 2 of their release. The cheapest price should be in week 1, just like it usually is with dvd.
I absolutely agree that they're making a mistake pricing down so quickly. There should be a 6 week minimum window

Thanks guys.

Hey Bill and Jeff,
Thanks especially to the Bits review, I'm feeling particularly vulnerable. If you had any inclination to try to sell me a little further on the Star Trek season 1 set, you could probably push me over the edge...

I've always enjoyed the original series. It's the rest of Star Trek which does very little for me.

It's the best Star Trek has ever looked, period, and I've seen a 35mm print that was in good shape. The new FX are entirely respectful of the original intent and compositions, and embellish at most what was already there or implied. It's a model of how to restore and re-invigorate without destroying, celebrating the brilliant work of some very talented people while increasing the likelyhood that younger viewers will watch.

Didnt they keep the original episodes intact for the purists?

DS9 is (obviously if you've read my posts) my favorite followed by TNG. I never saw any of the original series actually.

My problem is that I would have a hard time watching it given its age. I just cant watch anything older than 1977, except for the Exorcist.

Yes; both versions are on the discs and you can even angle-change between them on-the-fly.

I don't want to sound like an @$$ but if you refuse to watch movies that were made before 1977 you're not a true film fan and you're missing out on thousands of great movies.

You've never seen Jaws, Lawrence of Arabia, Sunset Boulevard, Wizard of Oz, The Godfather, etc.?

100% fully aware of that. More people are going to be looking for a certain title on release day. Why not give them the best price? I think they could make more sales by following the same successful method of DVD.

I feel the same way, primarily because of the styles of acting. I may have said this before here (and if it wasn't here it was on HTF) that the way people portrayed characters in movies and TV from the 50s is different from the 60s, which was different from the 70s, and so on. Times and styles change, and characters in older shows and films seem very unnatural and too exaggerated to me. I don't find them believable as a result. That's why I've never been a fan of any of the popular "classic" movies.

To me Star Trek is also made a bit more difficult to take because it's so far removed from what came after - To see "The Motion Picture" era sets, costumes, and yes even acting is such a leap forward that I have a very hard time connecting the two.

But that all comes down to personal preference. It has nothing to do with quality, only one's own sense of what they are accustomed to.

Somehow I don't think anyone will lose sleep over that kind of remark.

I've missed out on the entire "Lord of the Rings" series. Why? No interest in the subject matter at all. Fully aware that I'm missing out, and I don't deny the filmmaking achievements, so it's not that I dislike them - can't do that if I haven't seen them.

This has nothing to do with thinking older movies are "bad" in any sense either, not from my perspective. Merrick may feel differently, I don't know.

That's about as equal to someone saying "if you don't like TOS you aren't a real Trek fan" or "if it's not the same as TOS it's not really Trek - DS9 isn't really Trek"....as if someone's opinion about what is and what isn't a true fan is going to carry any weight when it's all a matter of personal preferences. No one has any sort of authoritative stance on what is and what isn't.

I never got into the original series originally. My brother used to watch it and it was one of the many things I made fun of him about. But, I started watching them in college (reruns) in the early 80's and really enjoyed them and have watched most things Trek ever since. I can't, however, watch TOS anymore. Everything just seems to hokey now. I watch Enterprise all the time and still enjoy the movies, but I can't bear TOS anymore.
