Hey Jeff, I know you said that you dont always like to comment on the release date of certain titles but I was wondering about Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown. They were announced for Aug 4th. Then they were saying it would come out with Inglourious Basterds. I havent heard anything. Do you or Bill know anything on their release date? Thank you.

At the Bits we review the quality of the disc, not the movie (see my GI Joe review). You already knowwhat I think of it, and that would also require me having the disc.
If you want to watch Star Trek on Blu-ray, there's a whole pile of lovely season sets and movie boxes on Amazon, and that's all I'm going to say further on it. If and when Battlestar Galactica comes to Blu-ray, you can be sure I'll be the one doing it, but I don't see that happening for at least 2 years. |

Jeff,
I enjoyed your review of GI Joe. I actually found the film to be very enjoyable for what it was. I was disappointed that they didn't do more with Duke though. He seemed underused. I was glad that they went all out with the silliness though instead of trying to make the technology seem realistic. |

![]() JJTrek shares the same issues as most other "re-imagining"s. Lack of reverence for the source material, unnecessary changes for the sake of "making it their own" and lazy mistakes that a cadet trekkie would've spotted on the first run through. . I'm a hardcore Trekker and I loved the new film. As far as the BSG reboot goes, I enjoyed the campy '78 original first run...the "reimagining" had its moments but was wayyy too depressing. Granted, armageddon isn't happy times, but Moore & Co. seemed to go out of their way to make things even worse for our characters. Last edited by PeterTHX; 11-08-2009 at 03:45 AM. |

EDIT- Oh Trek 5, and the fact that the Enterprise doesn't have 78 decks, yet they still arrive on it in star Trek 5 after passing deck 50, 60 etc on the rocket boots. Last edited by Jeff Kleist; 11-08-2009 at 04:23 AM. |

Jeff,
While not perfect, it is very popular and has brought a lot of new fans under the tent. My Mom always hated Trek and loved this movie, same with a bunch of my daughters friends. It's a fun action flick with a good story, tons of action, and some light humor (sometimes a little too much, like when Scotty is beemed into that pipe). |

But it's not Star Trek. That's the problem. You can contemporize something without destroying it. It's "A superficial representation of the collective memory of Star Trek" is the best description I've seen. The story is frankly a disaster as well, because of the gigantic detour (more continuity violations, Vulcan has no moon, and the moon would be atomized by that kind of explosion) with an entire half hour spent simply so JJ can shoehorn Nimoy into the movie (literally, all that did not exist before he said yes). And Ron Moore brought "new fans" in as well. Unfortunately they don't watch what the show really is, simply what someone "re-imagined" it to be. It really doesn't matter that the Trek tent is getting bigger, because JJ Trek's tent is parked over in the next county, and of those new fans, a mere handful (well under 5%) will buy the multipass. For the record, my mother hated it, and she's always been a very casual Trek viewer, and doesn't share my passion for exactitiude when it's not classic British Literature (Zemeckis Beowulf and Grendle's mother sometime ![]() ![]() Last edited by Jeff Kleist; 11-08-2009 at 03:41 PM. |

Granted, it isn't Star Trek, but that may end up being a good thing in the long run for Paramount. They took the franchise as far as they could with their previous casts and it was time for a new direction. You may not care for the direction, but it's the biggest box office draw for a Star Trek film yet, so "the people" are against you
