Polyphony just should stick to making trailers. They're far more entertaining than the actual horrible boredom of the games. If I wanted to drive a real car, I have one in the driveway. If only we could get them to play Daytona and make a game that looks this good that's actually fun (and still selling new cabinets FIFTEEN YEARS LATER I might add)

I know many PS3 lovers are excited about Twisted Metal and GT5. Good for them.

But no Resistance 3 and no Agent make this E3 nothing less than a colossal disappointment for me.

I thought it was a good conference

Not too much time spent on 3D or Move to make them boring, awesome exclusives like the Medal of Honour and Dead Space packages, GT5 date (Jeff I can't believe your bashing it!!), KZ3, Time Crisis, Portal 2, Twisted Metal.

Whats not to like?

EDIT: And Kevin Butler was epic

You ain't kidding, Jeff - Newell goes from staunch loather of all things PS3 to press conference spotlight.

A new Twisted Metal game where old Incognito members are involved in the development will always get me excited. I only caught this through live blogging - waiting to get home to watch it in HD on G4. So was Move more promising than Kinect or less? The voice commands and Minority Report dashboard alone has me pretty well sold on Kinect.

No Resistance 3 and no Agent. For me, thats whats not to like.

Although, I did like the Dead Space 2 with Extraction game pack and the fact that Gabe Newell came out in support of the PS3 did make Sony the "winner" despite my sore disappointment.

Jeff,

Is it safe to assume now that whatever audio issues there may be with Disney's Pinocchio they're being ignored? I don't call the below ever being definitively addressed:

From the HTF Pinocchio BD review:
Quote:
There's possibly a word missing from the soundtrack! In "Give a Little Whistle," the old dvd's soundtrack goes like this:

Jiminy: "And when your whistle's weak, yell!"

Pinocchio: "Jiminy Cricket?"

Jiminy: "Right!"

Jiminy's callback "Right!" is missing on the BluRay. The BR has two audio channels: one a modern "stereo" remix and one supposedly the original mono. I checked: the word is missing from both. The word exists on the old dvd, and also the original vhs tape, (from circa 1985). I think the exclusion or inclusion of that word depends on whatever source material they used to remaster this song. The word doesn't exist on old Disneyland records soundtracks. I've only ever heard it uttered on older home video versions of the film. (Not sure if it's on the more recent CD soundtrack recordings, but I'll check later). I'll leave it to the experts to tell us whether the word is even [i]supposed[/i/] to really be in the movie: that is, whether it existed in the original film prints or not.

Did it sound like the one being backed up on Rockstar's or SquareEnix's?

Come on Jeff MS is the worst culprit when it comes to pay offs.

I was disappointed at no R3 (Agent can wait for me). But Sony have no problems at releasing major titles through the year so it could still come .

I had at least one TM on the PSOne... ditto for GT... and I really have no interest in buying the new ones for the PS3. I'm not interested in R3 either...

That being said, I walked away from it with a so-so attitude. PS3's MOVE will be mine... I'm looking forward to playing Sports Champions and The Shoot. Little Big Planet 2 will be mine as well, though I'll probably wait until next year for it to go down a little...

I may end up with the Donkey Kong game, and the 3DS was pretty cool, but Nintendo's was pretty boring.... aside from the women strapped to the 3DS units.

Microsoft is who impressed me though... I can't think of a single XBOX-exclusive that I'm interested in, but I WANT A SLIM!! A Kinect too as well...

Jeff (and others),

Years ago (in the '90s?) Dolby issued an open letter to the film and home video industry basically telling them that they were foolishly and needlessly shooting themselves in the foot by having the previews presented at a higher average SPL than the feature movie itself ... substantial numbers of people (even projectionists in theaters) would adjust the volume for the previews (since they often come first) and not bother turning up the volume when the much softer (and higher dynamic range) feature presentation came on. This would sabotage the intentions of the composer and the film's director. The industry seemed to take this message to heart, and they turned down the previews for several years. Now they seem to be as loud as ever. Granted, nowadays many of us have a volume control on the remotes in our main system, with which we can sabotage them right back, but then why bother mastering the previews at a high level? Those who can remotely turn all that cacaphonous clash and bash in the previews down will, and those who can't are inconvenienced and the movie may suffer. Our (older) bedroom system uses a high quality vintage stereo amp and speakers connected directly to the player and does not have a remote volume control (we certainly don't want to go through the lousy electronics in the TV to get a remote volume). The result is that we skip the previews (if possible!) or one of us has to get out of bed an adjust (turn up) the volume when the movie comes on, causing its first few minutes to suffer from "Prior curse effect."

Why would they ignore Dolby's good advice, particularly when it will gain (no pun intended) them nothing?

Where did I accuse Sony of being the exclusive provider of dumptrucks?. You just don't get 180's like Gabe Newell's without a big one though, and I imagine the option of including Steam support in PS3 was a big enough potential revenue stream to shut him up

I'm all about Twisted Metal, but snipers? I dunno. Twisted Metal 2 is still better than all the rest of the games in the franchise put together. I'd pay $20 for an HD remake

BUT, he did say that the PS3 would provide the best experience for Portal 2 and you don't say that sort of thing without SOME sort of belief in what you are doing. Its possible that Sony might have provided Valve some engineers to help them better understand the PS3 architecture and he could have changed his tune now that he has a better understanding.

Nevertheless, it's a big deal for the PS3 to have Valve's support. I am totally unsure as to how STeam will have any relevance on the PS3 over the PSN.

I also have my doubts about Assassins Creed Brotherhood being nothing more than an expansion pack to Assassins Creed 2 like Halo 3 ODST was.

Don't know whether anyone's brought up 6/14's little factoid, but:
Quote:
Okay... release news. Universal has unveiled a couple more catalog Blu-ray titles for release on 9/14: Mercury Rising and Unleashed. Strangely, they have the 1983 film The Pirates of Penzance due on DVD only on 9/14. Meanwhile, they've also revealed the cover art for their Psycho: 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray (due on 10/19).
...WHOWHATWHEREWHENHOWHUH?????

Are we talking about THE 1983 Kevin Kline movie (as I don't know of any other Gilbert & Sullivans that Universal owns at the moment) finally clearing its nasty little Linda Ronstadt performance rights that kept it off disk for twelve years, and despaired most of us that we'd never see it on disk in our lifetimes?

If so....friend, you just don't spring one of the all-time Holy Grails since the Birth of DVD, that we've made a ritual out of nagging the studio since literally the days we bought our first SD player, at the bottom of a list of throwaway announcements and say "Oh, btw..."
IS this the One We're Thinking Of, or does this one need some fact-checking? I won't believe the impossible till we see cover art!

I'm pretty sure it is. I would also guess that they have no clue how well it's going to sell and don't want to make the investment until they do

So if you want it on Blu, buy the DVD, buy 2 or 3 for your friends, and send those NICE snail mail letters to Universal.

Me I'd love a great stage production of HMS Pinnafore

Jeff - are you or Bill going to be reviewing the new Predator BD anytime soon? The disc already seems to be causing controversy (big surprise!).

Now that I am past the sad and disappointing news that Resistance 3 didn't make an appearance at E3, (which likely means it aint coming this year) I do have to say that Dead Space 2 and Killzone 3 have become the games that I am most looking forward to.

It was absolutely awesome that the PS3 version of Dead Space 2 has Extinction given as a bonus.

I could totally care less about GT5 and Twisted Metal.

Kinect has to go down as one of the biggest wastes of time since MS forgot that Kinect HAS to show some potential to the hardcore gamer since its the hardcore gamer that will introduce it to the casual gamer. Otherwise they will stick with Wii.

Fox doesn't send out screeners till the last minute, so no, not until it's in hand

No reason to yet. I didn't buy a PS2 till Guitar Hero came out. It'll take a game that thrills me like that one to get me to buy one, because there's no exclusive franchises on PS3 I'm $250+ desperite to play, and I already have a Blu-ray player and a media hub.

If Sony wants to send me one, I'm happy to play their games, I have nothing against the PS3, far from it I just haven't had a reason to make the investment. I'd rather spend the money on one of the new Panny 3D decks that does checkerboard before that feature gets cut (I'm not positive it'll even be around next year)

They don't need us to introduce it to the sheep who bought Wiis. They'll learn about it in the same places. CNN, Today Show, QVC, Jay Leno, etc. I don't know what you were expecting out of these motion control things, and they didn't show all the stuff it'll work with at E3 because at least this year a lot of the Natal stuff will be added to the games when the core function is finished. Why aren't you just as dissapointed in Move? They didn't show anything that Natal hadn't shown the day before.
