At least one of those titles should pop up on the horizon again soon

If they delayed Spinal Tap, there was probably a good technical reason to do so, but I'll have to look into it. A lot of titles got bumped during Fox's hiatus, and they need to fit them back into the promotional schedule

Not sure where or who to ask about this, but does anyone here have any information on the UK release of Zulu? I saw over at "the other place" it being discussed, but as usual, the resident doom and gloom crew have their knickers in a twist over it being DNR'd to death (according to them). Anyone have any real information about this? It's a great movie and I'm probably going to import it, but just wondering what some normal folk thought about it (if anyone knows).

I guess you missed the review on this site. An accurate review
in my opinion. I think you'll find that the better review the hordes
decend at AVS. Keep in mind that they have no market for their
opinions. In fact some of them have been turned down flat
as their technical expertise is lacking or in some cases nonexistent..

P.S.
It is only one disc. The packaging picture on Amazon.uk
is wrong in the upper left of the case where it says
a two disc edition. It never was a two disc edition.

I recognize Doomsday, but what film are the other pics from? They look like paintings.

You posted the same screengrabs in the Zulu thread. That is where I addressed them.

Here's a question...where's your long-promised review of Sleeping Beauty?

I think it's back burnered for the huge pile of stuff that's been dumped on our laps lately. I do believethat Rob has a wonderful Golden Hollywood coming on it as well.

I know there are many other places on the web to recieve DVD reviews, but - I have to say this - when it comes to reviewing the Disney animated features, The Digital Bits has always disappointed me (and I'm talking about going back to 1999). I remember trying to find reviews of the new Disney animated features in 1999 and 2000 and having to visit other sites. Flash-forward ten years -- I'm not surprised you guys "backburner" a review of Sleeping Beauty while "frontburner" a review of The Final Countdown -- I'm just making an observation. You're not exactly Johnny-on-the-Spot with the Disney animated features, and you never have been.

But you guys know your market and know what you're doing.

Yes I did miss the review here. For some reason I thought I'd searched for one but guess I didn't. Or I did but maybe I forgot. The past week or two has been hectic. But thanks for the reminder and the link. After reading the review, I'm glad I bought the disc and anxiously awaiting it's arrival.

The Final Countdown review hit when the disc did, SB's date had already come and gone. TFC is also, if you remember a major crusade by the site to get on DVD about 8-9 years ago, so it's a Bits poster child

Yes, TFC probably appeals to the base a bit more, but I think you'll see an improvement in those areas once our revamp is complete and our pipeline becomes much more efficient.

The Digital Bits was almost heroic in their efforts to promote Blu-Ray and end the format war. Disney releasing a Platinum title so early in the life of the format, and in so stunning a fashion, is more than a simple catalog release -- it's an event in the history of the format. I'd have figured you guys would be all over it like peanut butter on Wonder Bread for that reason alone.

Definately it's an amazing disc. Unfortunately the video business is very much about the here and now.

When it comes I think you'll be very happy with it, and it'll be worth the wait especially for Rob's stuff

Hi Jeff,

I was just watching "At the movies" and they mentioned that The Sopranos complete set was just released on DVD.

Why was Blu-ray passed up? Is there any chance that we will see it on Blu? This was very surprising news to me because I hardly pay attention to DVD.

The Sopranos set just recycles existing product with maybe a bit of bonus material on top of it.Blu wasn't "passed up" because there was nothing to recycle except the last season

I assume it'll come out on Blu-ray at some point in the future, but HBO has been very slow dipping their toes into the Blu pool. I expect that From the Earth to the Moon will be the next one to peak out sometime next summer.

Undoubtedly like so many other TV titles they're waiting for the market to get bigger, because the upgrade potential is less than with DVD, and do you really want to be paying $600 for the set?

I would pay $600 for the set if they threw in both seasons of Rome on BD.

Actually I did not consider the cost of this massive package. I was thinking it would cost around $150 to $200 discounted.

I guess for now I'll continue watching my new favorite HBO series for now: True Blu...errr True Blood.

Jeff, do you know why Warner only use VC-1 as their codec on all BD releases? Do you think they'll ever use AVC? I'd love it if you'd ask them.

Because WB owns their own authoring house that has bought and paid for VC-1 encoders

The codec is not the issue with their releases, VC-1 and AVC are essentially identical at this point in time, and the only reason AVC will eventually be better is because development has stopped on VC-1

Jeff,

This question may be too hard to even speculate on right now, but have you, Bill or anyone else heard rumblings about the movies coming out around Valentine's day? Pretty Woman is suppose to be out around there but have you guys heard anything else possibly in the pipe? Kinda hoping Universal pops out Definately, Maybe and Attonement
