I guess I should have asked about Gladiator earlier in the year, maybe we would have gotten it this year

The same day I ask about it, it gets rumored to be coming out.

The movie I'm looking most forward to with great anticipation, experiencing it first-hand at the debut engagement in my boyhood cinema, is the genuine-classic-EPIC--- "Ben Hur".
IMHO, Charlton Heston's best peformance, along with a supporting cast of Hollywood's best of the best.

Forced into slavery, tempered in the gladiator arena, the manifesting of devine providence from the bowels of a Roman legion's warship to the poignant old haunts and lessons learned, culminating with the most famous chariot race I'm aware of in my lifetime, @ the Roman Coliseum.

Now that's an ass-kicking movie!

Hope they've really tried to restore this classic gem properly as it will be quite a treat to see this @ 1080P and hopefully, it's original lossless multichannel sound.

And to think Leslie Nielsen almost played Messala.

Surely you're joking.

Any word on Spielberg titles? He isn't gonna have a new movie out for quite a while.

I'd love to see Saving Private Ryan to get released as his next BD.

Hey Jeff,

Any idea if we will see a blu release of Dune?

Im talking about both the 1984 David Lynch (theatrical and extended) versions, as well as the 2000 Sci-FI channel version.

On another note:
Has Doom sold well as a catalog title? Im rather surprised that Universal would give high priority to this title to get released before countless other more requested titles got released.

IM a fan of the film so IM not complaining. Im just curious.

Thanks. Your input is much appreciated.

Lionsgate Dune was originally a launch title and vanished

I don't think anyone wants to see it in HD. the backdrops barely hold up in SD to be honest. In HD it'll be the "stage version" of Dune. A shame, because it's still the most accurate version. Children of Dune would fare far better

I sure hope that Dune will have both versions, I find the TV cut far superior (if they'd only take out the fadeouts and the redundant shots)
This year is the 25th anniversary i believe, so i'd expect it then

Doom looks good in HD, and judging by how often I see it on sale, I would assume it's a solid catalog title. Also the Rock has that Witch Mountain tragedy coming out (the original movie wasn't good either). Maybe third time will be the charm

Hope your right about Dune...specially the 173 minute version. I love that movie so much. They can put pretty much any price on it and, if it's Blu Ray, I'll be there cash in hand.

I like the Sci-fi Channel's version of Dune more too! Love my DVD set of it... it already feels like a stage play, though.

Had a question about Stardust- any word on this? It was originally rumored for this month but no announcement. I'm assuming we won't see it this year, but I'd love to see it come out early next year. I'm a pretty big Neil Gaiman fan.

Like many catalog releases, Stardust has been shifted to another spot in the schedule. I loved the movie too. I believe the disc itself has been completed though

Jeff, Stardust will be a first quarter 2009 release, announcement is coming possibly in the next 2-3 weeks. As you know, things can always change but I don't think so on this one.

Jeff,

Any chance we'll see a stipped down package of Casablanca? I'd prefer a $20 sales point for the BD only.

I meant more in line of announcements!

Also, you can put this under the "who cares" category, but Im curious what has inspired Universal to move to AVC from VC1. Im curious if anyone knows why.
