I think it will certainly make them more cautious, however most niche companies are jumping into the Blu game in some capacity this year. They're all watching sales numbers of titles that parallel their target releases, and of course were watching the Christmas sales before deciding how much of a commitment to make

What are the chances in seeing the BBC verison of The Chronicles of Narnia on blu?

And also Sonys 80s Alice in Wonderland ever on Blu. And I say that was the best Alice in Wonderland ever, I remember watching it on when the Disney Channel used to be good.

Thanks,

Forgive me for saying so WW but you have asked on the status of some bizarre titles that have absolutely no chance of apearing on BR in the first few years of it's life. Do you honestly think the above and "care bear's movie" is gonna sell more than 20 copies on BD?!!

If it's not v popular, made lots of money or has sold lots of copies in the recent past on DVD then it's not gonna happen for years, if at all...

True, it's like me asking for a film that I've been crying out for for years, 'Twice Upon A Time', which I love but hasn't been available since the days of laserdisc. Sadly, I never found a LD copy so I still don't have it.

Do I expect it to come out on BD? Hell, no.

Like virtually all BBC stuff, it only exists as standard def

Marc is correct that most of the stuff you ask for is simply not on anyone's radar any time in the forseeable future.

Hello Jeff,

I've noticed that there is a pre-order for an import of In Bruges. Is there a chance for a US release, especially with it winning at least one Golden Globe?

Maybe, but it's not on the radar right now. Could change

I'd go after that import if you really want it, you'll get it a lot sooner. Even if they greenlit it today, 6 months would be a midlevel estimate till you see it

Hi Jeff,

I had "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" in my Netflix queue and it showed as a tentative February Blu release. Today it shows as unavailable in either DVD or Blu. Further, they state that they will never carry it. Considering the subject matter and the reviews, I would blind buy this if it becomes avaiable. Can you shed any light on this?

Thanks

I know some of my itles I ask for may be out there. But Those titles mean alot to me and would be first day buys over alot of the stuff that is coming out. And Im not asking if these itles are coming out now in a few months its for maybe in a few years. I grew up on these great cartoons and just think it would be great to have them in the blu format, thats all. I love my cartoons just wish there were more out there to get.

CS reps are notoriously clueless. According to Disney's press site, there is only a DVD, and they've moved it to the "coming soon" pile

My guess is that they want to see what awards it wins before deciding what to do with it

Virtually none of them will be ported to HD, because they exist only in SD form, and the expense of locating the film, assuming it's possible and retransferring it is far greater than
any revenue they will ever produce

Transformers is the only 80s cartoon that even has a shot IMO, and Batman:TAS from the 90s (sadly Animaniacs and Tiny Toons seem to have woefully underperformed on DVD, erasing any hopes for an upgrade)

Like with Tiny Toon Adventures amd so on, why were DVD sales bad when the fans were crying for them. Is it more the price or how they did the box sets or something else. I never got them cause of the price just like South Park seasons, they were high for about 14 episodes.

Because very often there's a loud, vocal, and in reality small fanbase for many of these shows. I'm personally suprised that Animaniacs didn't do as well as it could have.

When you get into carebears and stuff like that, the number of people not buying them for their 4 year old to babysit them is extremely small

What di studos look for when they consider realsing a title? And what does it all take to make a movie ready for Bluray? Just wondering, cause from titles I and my freind have seen are like why that, for example Poison Ivy 4. And with that would a movie that is up to 4, would it help it sell better with they realsed the other 3? Thanks, Just trying to learn how these things work.

Has the French Connection been discussed at all. I have recently bought it but have not had the chance to sit down and watch yet. By all accounts its getting slammed. I hope this film has gotten the proper attention.

Probably because the company that made 4 only holds the rights to make new ones, and catalog titles aren't doing that well on Blu-ray. These movies are direct to video, bargain bin fodder for the most part and simply won't post the numbers to make it worthwhile

The usual hate for 70s/80s movies that don't look that great on the negative. The director is even on the disc talking about how much he loves the Blu-ray version

Dear The Digital Bits,

Late last year you mentioned that there was a rumor with Braveheart being released on the 20th of this month. Also that Anchorman was going to be released with Old School, but Anchorman wasn't released.

Are there any update or news regarding these?

To be fair, I think the issue is more about how the director's intent changed the look of the film than the fact it doesn't look like a Pixar movie.

I'm not familiar with it because I don't have the disc myself. Can you elaborate? I got it on excellent authority a few months back that the director was very very happy with it
