Penton was being sarcastic

I just spoke with someone who was involved with the 2-disc DVDs, who is a renowned expert on Trek and all of its intricacies (people WOULD recognize the name), and he looked at the shots on a high quality monitor, and and agrees they are not out of line for what he knows to be the general look and/or feel of these films, and he is passionate and is completely educated in filmmaking, remastering and restoration and has directed multiple films himself.

So until such time as I see them and see differently, I stand by previous evaluations

People asking about AOD, nothing back on that yet.

That sounds like a good plan as that's how we do it when our attention is brought to a potential 'problem disc'........actually, the disc is compared side-by-side to the HD master either on split screen or two adjacent displays synched toghether.

If this really becomes an issue maybe Bill can drive up north and arrange a personal visit with the respective people for such a side-by-side demo.

Your 'renowned expert' means nothing, screenshots posted on the internet are the defacto standard for determining excessive artifacts arising from digital noise reduction.

Didn't you get the memo from *science*?

Now, I'm being sarcastic.

The extended cut of 1 was a case of people making assumptions that 1 was already the director's cut. Studios aren't monoliths, and especially at the top there is a LOT of turnover. The regime that did the DVD is 3 generations gone now. By the time they found out what they had, there wasn't time to reassemble ST1 and commission new FX, but this set is absolutely by no means a rush job

I was told by someone at Paramount that the cleanup team even did the newer movies before the older ones specifcally because they could apply the knowlege gained from the newer into making the older ones better

Personally I'm curious whether they know where they are/have audio for a lot of these deleted scenes. There has to be a reason why they weren't included at all in the previous DVDs
People have been freaking out from the beginning over the boxset. Sadly.

First it was freaking out that the Director/Extended cuts weren't there.

Then it was freaking out cause they believed only Star Trek II was given any restoration. Simply over the announcement that it was fully restored. Of course, without those people realizing that only Star Trek II needed fully restored because the film had deteriorated. Sometimes I question how great the internet actually is.

Honestly? I'm only paying $43 and change for the set anyway. So I'm upgrading.

In fact, I know of no studio, major content provider or post house that cares either, as that forum lost its credibility a long time ago (see my signature)..
On these there internets, can't ever be too sure!

Yep. It was made for $27 million (the same as Star Trek V), reused sets from The Next Generation and a lot of cash went to ILM and star salaries.

And I didn't, I simply stated that AVS's opinions on DNR and EE are guilty until proven innocent that they're overreactive and that they don't know what they're talking about based on dozens of previous chicken littleings on their part. Meanwhile, Paramount would be innocent until proven guilty based on their track record over the last year in terms of quality and the known characteristics of the films in question, combined with the fact that except in extreme cases like Longest Day (which this isn't even close to even if it is DNR'd) or most New Line discs, screenshots simply don't tell the story.
I'm also wondering if some of the supposed "DNR" is actually the makeup that had to pancaked on to keep the cast looking photogenic!

Some filmstock can look like crap by today's standard no doubt, but at no point does STVI look like film. It probably has the most amount of digital processing I have ever seen. The "cleanup crew" turned it into a oil painting. I would have just preferred a soft image that had actual grain.

I read it and agreed; therefore, it was deleted.
If the author of that post “can’t see” that it was disrespectful and rude to Jeff, then I suggest that he himself “needs an eye exam” ……no offense intended.
Wow. While I certainly don't intend any claims that my "no offense"s exonerate me of whatever wrongdoing might sit between them (and lord knows the number of posts on internet forums which follow the formula: "No offense, but [SOMETHING OFFENSIVE]."), well... I guess I need an eye exam.

I'm one of the people who posted in that thread over there (not a poster of screenshots), so I was a little miffed by Jeff's pat assertion that it was just a bunch of idiots, but whatever.

The bottom line is that regardless of the way Jeff's comments struck me, I sincerely thought my comments were entirely within the framework of the discussion terms and were meant only to challenge assumptions for the sake of opening debate.

Again, people seem to be taking my comments in a much harsher and less friendly spirit than I ever intended them (which I'm not saying is anyone's fault- yours or mine- just the way it seems to be), so I'm going to do everyone a big ol' favor and just shut my trap and read for a while.

Sorry for the mess, everybody. I guess I suck at the internet.

Jeff, I don't know if I have any credibility left around here, with the number of times I've been misunderstood, but I hope you can believe my sincerity when I say that I never meant to be rude and I hope you received my comments in the way that I meant them.

Now... back to the thread. Jeff or Bill...

Any word on extras for the TMNT Blu-Ray Boxset?

All the swag is nice, but some substantial extras would be nicer swag.

Please tell me they're not gonna cheap out with barebones for the older films.

Its being released by FOX/MGM. Most of their recent titles have been top notch, no reason to expect anything less with this one.

I haven't seen the G/B/U disc so I can't comment

Nothing on the Depp stuff, I hope Ed Wood comes out sooner than it did on DVD

Nothing on TMNT yet, but Kevin Eastman said it'd be "cool" when I saw him in Northhampton last year (we chatted a bunch of times when Words and Pictures was open, man I miss that place)
