The 3-pack is in stock, not the 6-pack. So if that's what they requested, they could have gotten that.

The person I spoke to has direct access to the warehouse stock computers. It's as up to the minute as you get

I didn't get Ben Button until last Friday either

That's not so bad since that's only 1 film to go through. 6 on the other hand...

How is the '3-pack' , "only one film to go through" ??

I guess that's the 'new math'

just go to the forums us common people go they don't want dnr,ee etc.

Ironically, many of these people that are now *****ing about DNR were griping about how grainy early BD's were... They got what they wanted, and now they're not happy.

The studios used to frequent HTF & AVS, but then the loonatic fringe took over... Admittedly you can find a loonatic fringe anywhere, but considering how respected those sites used to be...

But IF that screenshot for STIV is reasonably accurate, then there is no way in hell I can make that purchase. Im hoping we can get some real reviews on the set before too much longer.

Im also hoping that whoever took the screenshot from STIV had bad software or didnt know what the hell they were doing.

I thought the PQ on Dark City was quite good. I love the movie and found it to be a huge step up from the DVD. I'll admit DNR doesn't bother me, and I don't even notice it (watching on 62", 50" and 26" TVs). I know people demand the best for their money, or what they feel should be the best, and I respect that. But I never understood the stance of not buying the the movie because it wasn't perfect, and denying yourself for years or forever the ability to watch the movie in high-def. Doesn't make sense to me, but to each his own.

I'm still on the fence with the Star Trek set. I placed and then canceled my Amazon order and am eagerly awaiting a review and more screenshots.

I will, however, say that even I can see the waxiness of that STIV shot.

I watched Dark City on BD and thought it was a mixed bag; some scenes with noticeable DNR-waxy look, where as other scenes seemed fine with grain clearly visible.

gotta admit-- this is bothering me--
cancelled my pre-order as well-- I can always re-order in a few days when
I hear more-- Amazon and Deep Discount have the set for 79 bucks--

somethings funny about nobody having a copy yet to review........

hi penton,

i didnt mean to aim the post at you at all, which is why i put the caveat in.. i guess my word "advice" was a bad choice.. as i was trying to convey whats sort of common sense that if you love a title, you will probably buy it on blu-ray anyway regardless of whether the title is the best quality if can be.. but its hard to deny due to the over zealous nature of some screenshot analysts.. that in general if anyone talks about quality they are likely to be shot down very very quickly

i would really love to buy the star trek set.. but i havent pulled the trigger yet cause of all the questions being raised here.. will i still buy it? probably... i dont have any of them on dvd.. only a complete vhs set from about 12 years ago thats up in the attic collecting dust..

all the trek films have been shown on HD transmission over the last year or so in Uk/Ireland and from Torsten's comments it seems the blu-rays will mostly be a duplicate of these..

i'm hoping that there was some mix up and the european versions of these films got poor transfers whereas the US versions are top notch.. i know its unlikely as they are probably all minted from the source..

again dont attribute my post to anything personal to any of the insiders.. i think your contribution to the forums is fantastic

cheers,
mick

I believe that I indicated that in general most people that are big fans of any particular film will go out and purchase it, if the newest incarnation is any significant upgrade (meaning…picture or audio or extras or a combination thereof) compared to prior home media editions. I could care less if you do or don’t and I'm not advising you to do so or not to do so.

The only “advice” I gave is if you truly want to make a real change or difference with regards to some grievance you have that has already been adequately expressed by others (Torsten), is to proceed the way I indicated in the second post I linked above.

Whining, whether in the real world or online is seldomly productive and can actually be counterproductive…..people could drive Bill and Jeff away from their own Insider’s thread if they get bombarded enough about how bad or “shit looking” Star Trek looks on Blu-ray. I seldom read any other threads on this forum as many are laced with undeserved immature comments bashing some individual or organization that I am familiar with.

What was the second most whined about Blu-ray on the internet besides Patton? probably Gangs of New York, right? Did all the whining ultimately result in a reissue by Disney?

Nope.
If you want to make any real difference, like I said, contact Jeff and Bill via PM and it's generally best to include some precise specific observations, like time codes and such so that they can pass on the information to the appropriate people.

Personally I don't believe we can sway studio executives to change policy. They have even said that the "online contingent" does not affect overall Blu-ray sales.

Never mind the fact that it is us who's being most successful at promoting the format, as acknowledged by NPD:

Quote:
“The leading driver of Blu-ray purchase intent is recommendations from friends, family or co-workers,” said NPD’s entertainment industry analyst, Russ Crupnick. “Blu-ray’s superiority used to be difficult for many consumers to grasp, but when friends rave about it, or demonstrate Blu-ray in their homes, they are selling the benefits in a way that is far more effective than simply viewing an advertisement or seeing it demonstrated at a retail store.”
http://www.npd.com/press/releases/press_090506.html

So when studios shrug off complaints from enthusiasts (who can't be wrong 100% of the time), they are shooting themselves in the foot, and forfeiting some substantial (and free) advertising.

Well, yes and no

Bill and I have spent many years developing relationships with the studios and in my experience they are open to listening

However

They WON'T listen when they're being shelled and have hand grenades falling in their trenches. They will dig deeper and put a lid on it

This is an art, not a science, and you can't just go barging in there otherwise everything shuts down. Patience=progress, no matter how annoying the wait involved in patience may be.

Except Han shoots first, I don't think that one is winnable

In the meantime you can occupy yourself with all of the basic continuity and technical violations in the Abrahms movie that could have been solved with a few days of ADR and having a Trek nerd vet your VFX shots (warp nacells are not engines, hatch on the "neck" is a shuttle docking bay not an escape pod(didn't they watch the 5 minutes it took to dock there in TMP?) cardassians not met until well after TOS, romulans not seen until late in TOS by humans, and no one knew they were releated to Vulcans(so Uhura couldn't speak "all 3 dialects"),no Orions in starfleet since they're a criminal syndicate, a Federation is a government, not a military branch, somehow re-entry isn't an issue when spacediving, it goes on and on And making Enterprise canon when you're throwing out the rest...why?)

Oh and don't taunt happy fun ball

Is there any plans for a 40th anniversary edition of Once Upon A Time In The West.

Given that MGM/Fox are bringing out The Good The Bad And The Ugly.

It would be nice opportunity for Paramount bring another spaghetti western classic to Blu-ray.
