Default Is my system working properly?

I just watched Underworld Evolution on blu-ray with PCM 5.1 and then i watched the first movie on DVD with DD 5.1. For some reason the DVD sound was twice as loud and the voices were more audible than that of the PCM track. I know that the PCM should be lossless but why is DD louder and more distinct when it comes to voices. I have a BDP-S550 bluray player hooked to an Onkyo HTS-6100 system that is set to Direct for the audio from my bluray player. I have the bluray player settings set to bit stream output to the receiver for decoding, it shows on the receiver when I have PCM, DTrue or DTS MA but the DD is still louder. I have to set volume at 30 for DD but 45 for True or MA?

1. You're comparing two different movies.

2. I wouldn't gauge the quality/differences of any discs (or between them) with a HTIB.

It's okay, I'm not terribly surprised to be honest. I haven't been following the Evangelion movies too closely, but I think the big question was which version of the first movie they'd wind up with.

Thanks for the update!

Howdy gents,
any idea whether House of Flying Daggers gets a new transfer in the upcoming 3pack? Reviewers said the first run was spotty.
Thanks!

Darth, you're either outputting in stereo, or you're just encountering that PCM is usually lower volume mastered than the DD tracks.

House of Flying Daggers is the same disc I believe, and better elements are not available to Sony

Any updates on Army of Darkness? Also, is there any word that Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown are delayed?

Please stop asking about AOD. Like I said, it'll probably be tied to the new Rami release. I want it too, but it's not going to make it come any faster.

Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown are delayed, at least till fall

Sorry, I didn't realize that was said, I didn't have time read through the entire thread, but read the last 5 pages or so.

Witht the exception of Monsters Inc, I don't believe any of those titles had a press release. They were not announced, they were "on the schedule"

This happens all the time. Nothing unusual

Bandai also announced Escaflowne: The Movie on Blu during AX, I'll have more details in a few weeks when I see the disc's producer in a few weeks. More later on

Hopefully, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown have good (DNR free) transfers.

Disney's live action catalog output has been horrible this year. So when the few they were planning on releasing get delayed, it stings a bit more. At least other studios can delay titles, and still have plenty of catalogs to release.
