Thank you for the post, kind sir. I've used part of it to hopefully clear up any doubt on your credentials.
I told anyone before they can seek out info on LOA here, but they haven't done so. Probably a good thing, since you hate talking about that subject. ![]() |

As more and more concert titles come to Blu, I wondered why most of them are only shot in 720p instead of 1080p Full HD? Does it cost ALOT more to shoot in 1080p or was it something technically harder to do?

I've only seen one concert shot 720p, and that's Tenacious D
Probably a choice of progressive scan over interlace mostly. 1080p cameras are far more expensive to rent or do post on, and if you're going for broadcast, 720p works just fine when converted to 1080, and a lot of the benefits of 1080i are lost in heavy cable compression anyway |

I am not sure I am in the right thread for this. I read around and did not see any thread specifically talking about getting classes, or even specific coding, involved with bluray or the digital television conversion.
I have ideas on how to make movies, television and advertising more interactive. I already have a degree in advertising and 8 years experience in the field of advertising. I want to learn the tools to be able to produce interactive features in bluray and digital television. I go to colleges and they just stare at me. I know back-end coding is involved. I know their MAY be programs in place to handle bluray interactive menu options (or it may all be done in code). But no one (not even programmers in varying backgrounds) can point me in the right direction. I dont have to be in a college environment. I am not looking at getting another degree. I just want to learn the tools to execute my interactive ideas. Please help. T am located in South Florida (east coast)--if that helps with anything that can aid me in my area. ![]() |

First make sure you have a solid background in Java and flash. Then you're going to have to go to NY or LA for Blu-ray specific classes. They're really expensive though, expect to drop over $10k on a 6-8 class course in authoring/BD-J
Digital interactive TV doesn't really exist in the states, not like the "red button" stuff in europe. I do know there are some TV production schools in south Florida, but since the majority of the buis is in LA, and the rest in the greater NY area, you're pretty limited to those locations. Backend stuff is virtually non-existant for Blu-ray applications, it's all being run locally and the back end is little more than the web servers already standing as I understand it 2themax is someone who can probably help you further |

Jeff is Gremlins still expected in the US this year? Warner have announced it in Europe.
Also can you say anything about any unannounced horror movies for Halloween? Can we expect anything good? Thanks in advance. |

Jeff,
Universal is doing a great job at catching up bluray with all the hd-dvds they put out, but there are MANY that are still missing. I know from earlier responses from you that their plan was to get them out as quickly as possible. Do you see them at least coming close to getting the remaining movies out this year or are they going to spread this out over multiple years? I would love to see them get them all out before WB gets done catching up. |

Jeff,
I registered with CBS's BD-Live the other night via CSI: S1, and noticed that they have a feature that shows you how many people are viewing their respective titles at that time. Among the titles shown being viewed were Star Trek: TOS S1 and S2. Have review copies been sent out? On a related note, how about review copies of "Smallville", "Supernatural" and "Fringe"? ~Alan |

I noticed that MGM doesn't have any titles for release after 9/15. Unless they Rocky box set counts?
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...by=releasedate Will they be announcing more titles for 2009 soon? Hopefully the rest of the James Bond 007 films and the Leone films (Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good The Bad The Ugly)?? What is the plan for the studios with older title releases at this point? I noticed you commented on the riverbed not being deep enough? Thanks! |

The riverbed isn't deep enough for the floodgates to open, so instead they'll have overflow drainages periodically to continue the metaphore
Christmas announcements are held till later so they don't get forgotten about Good the Bad and the Ugly is out now. While a few more bonds may make it out by the end of the year, all the "good" Bonds will probably be held for closer to Bond 23. Don't forget that production rights to the franchise have returned to MGM now, and that they're supposedly "unfixing" a lot of the last 2 and returning it to something closer to its roots (more gentleman spy, gadgets, quips. Leave depression to Bourne) |
