That depends on what the meaning of "soon" is. If you mean "soon" as in this year, slim to none. If you mean "soon" as in by next June 6th, I'd say the chances are high.

How about adding depth to the image? 3D isn't only about throwing things at the audience and having objects stick out of the screen right up to the face. "Modern" 3D is about trying to add depth the image to help immerse the viewer just like the addition of colour to film and surround sound.

I have always had a question in regard of subtitles and i will illustrate it with this example. Warner Bros is releasing soon Fringe season 1, and it has come to my attention that the Dvd version comes with multiple subtitle options and the blu-ray comes only with English subtitles . What's behind this kind of decisions? Thanks for the answer DB team!
Typo probably

WB site lists the following:
Subtitles: Dutch, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish

Well, it doesn't work unless it's shot/rendered 3D in the first place. Basically everything ends up looking like cardboard cutouts moving in space. In addition this process gives 10-15% of the population headaches because they can't get the alignment of the 2 fields right

And those nagging endlessly about Bad Boys

Question

Hi Jeff,

Any reason behind WB not including plain English subs along with English SDH which they used to when they were supporting HD DVD ?

I may never watch the 3d version on releases until the better 3d home spec comes along, but I would never consider boycotting a release just because there is a 3d version next to the 2d version.

Jeff,

Now that Disney owns Marvel can we expect them to own the rights for future Marvel films from here on out?

This is a better proposition in comparison to my experience in 3D. As I have experienced so far, it is not for me for regular viewing.

Even in the ship sinking part of the movie (the only part of the movie I enjoyed other than Kate posing for the picture), the 3-D effect would only be exciting if they rendered the ship in 3-D CGI and even then, you would have three dimensional people sliding down a 3D ship.

Unfortunately, Titanic has not aged well. Only Kate and Leo's characters are actually developed, and all the others are stereotypical cardboard cutout characters. When I saw this movie on the big screen I was very impressed and thought it was a great movie, but seeing it on VHS and DVD was a very big letdown as the visual "wow" effect was lost and the weakness of the underlying story became very obvious. Maybe a 3D effect can bring back some of the "wow", but I'm not holding my breath.

Hey Bill and Jeff,

Any word on whether a Remastered Gladiator is in the works to replace the one coming out tomorrow - i.e. sans PQ issues?

TIA!

For me personally, much of Cameron's work doesn't hold up well to repeat viewings. Terminator 2 especially bothers me -- the whole "non-violence" theme cloaked in a big-budget action blockbuster seems hypocritical. IMHO.

'Morning Jeff! (or is it afternoon where you are?)

I've been hunting for the full 98 minute version of '3 Ninjas' as my DVD version is only 84. I know in theaters in Sweden the 98 minute cut was shown, and I recently discovered that this same version occasionally airs on Starz On-Demand.

I don't know what the chances of seeing 3 Ninjas on blu-ray are, but if plans are made, who at Disney can I write to to suggest seamless branching/both versions?

I can only speak about region 1 product, but it would be because of the intended audience here. Since subtitle tracks cost money to prep and edit, it's probably a cost saving measure

Things that don't already have deals in place that they can't buy out. I'm pretty sure everything through avengers is signed up though.

Anything on that will show up on the site first

The standard Disney customer service address should be oK. I think we have the address on the bits

For those who keep asking about Ghibli stuff, the Blu-ray of Ponyo was announced today, but no companion catalog titles yet for December 8th. The US release may or may not come on that date, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was delayed to protect homeland revenue (though with Disney's prices these days it may not matter)

Import version has English subs, and will likely be identical to the US disc except that it almost certainly has much better cover art

Keep in mind that in Japan, pretty much all discs are priced for Rental/special collectors editions that are uber expensive.

7100yen ($72)- Movie BD
18,480yen($187)- Movie BD and 12 hour "How Ponyo was Born" BD set (it was shot at least partially 480p supposedly, and has been condensed to 2 discs). Avail seperately for 11,340yen. Also comes with an "Orientation and Welcome for Seniors" DVD and a map of the town. Both versions come with a "book seal"

Working on finding out exaclty how much of this will be ported to the US version, but I wouldn't count on more than a severely edited version of "how ponyo was born" to make the trip.

Those whose Japanese is better feel free to correct my translations

From the way the article is worded, it sounds like the North American version is separate somehow, like by seamless branching or a separate disc. I guess this will just be for the titles/credits, since the no-editing clause still applies for Ponyo, right?

Hey Jeff you think WB will ever restore the deleted scenes back into Superman 4 that way they did for Superman 2? Also Do you think the Donner and Lester Cuts of Superman 2 will ever be combined for an ultimate cut?

Jeff...do you think WB would destroy all references to Superman 4 and restore the legacy of the franchise? While there at it, maybe they can destroy 3 too

Combining the 2 is nigh impossible, because the Donner has a radically different structure. Alternate takes, the works. I imagine on the next reissue they'll have both versions though

I doubt that they'll do it to 4, it's too reviled. I haven't seen the deleted scenes, but I do have the novelization that contains them. It doesn't help

Jeff why did WB not restart Superman like they did with Batman? And what are the chances that when the Toy Story moives come out to Blu if they will include a 3D version or not? I am hoping they won't include the 3D version with the blu's.
