Yep. Makes me crazy. Depending on the offender my demands vary. I can assure you none of them are polite or delicate and it is NEVER a request. I am not out of line to TELL them what to do. Ya know, you expect this from young teens, but the last couple years it has been my experience that the greatest percentage of bad behaviour is from adults. I just wanna scream "this isnt your living room!!!!"

Not likely. Men, women, and thugs do not carry on in theaters (from my experience). 99% of the offenders are dorks/punks.

Clip from Firefly played at one of the local theaters where I go. They take it seriously and tell you before the movie that they will eject you if you talk, cell phone rings, or you have your messaging devices out. This past week, the owner of the theaters was in a screening and he reported someone. That someone later attacked his car as he was leaving. *click*

Amazing!

What gets me about the talkers is that as someone who is legally blind I often need clarification on something I missed or reading of subtitles and so on from friends I am with and we manage to pull it off without disturbing the folks around us let alone the entire theater. Now why can't people that just want to chat manage the same thing?

When I see the glow of a cell phone (which is distracting as hell) I have no problem BARKING a command to the offender. I had a twenty-something 4 or 5 chairs to my right that was ballsy enough to use his a second time...mistake....I walked over and stood directly in front of him and firmly demanded he put it away immediately. He did. The people behind him leaned forward and thanked me. When I returned to my seat, the lady next to me thanked me. I dont care how rude or obnoxious I appear, they are the offenders, not me. They are warned more than once before the show to be curteous. I'm not out of line to get in their face, and, I encourage others to do the same. If we tolerate it, it will just continue.

Sorry for the rant, but I LOVE going to the theater and it bugs the hell out of me how our adult society has become so poorly behaved. I have just reached a point where being Mr. polite and PC and accomodating didnt work for me anymore. Passive schmassive. Oh, and I no longer "ask" talkers to "please be quiet". I tell them to STOP TALKING NOW!

I want to clarify. I make no effort to physically intimidate the offenders, I am simply super direct. I think this shocks them into compliance because they are used to being "asked nicely".

Our local arthouse chain used to be owned by the mob before Mark Cuban bought it. I miss the days of Bruno enforcing the rules (you think I'm kidding)

One of the true downsides of home video is that people got used to not having to be respectful of those around them while watching the movie

Thank you. I really have no problem when I hear people whispering. To me, whispering is a demonstration of an effort to be curteous.

This place is no kids under 3 for matinees and no kids period after 5pm. The beer menu is pretty fantastic, too.

They can't serve beer here in the theaters even if they wanted to, unless they wanted to pay for a full liquor license, which are very expensive and there are only a certain number allowed (so you have to wait for someone with one to go out of buisness)

I also go to the theater often. My strategy is to go when the theater is as empty as possible. I either go before 6 PM on Friday or the first showing on Saturday or Sunday morning (which is usually 11 AM).

I can't stand it when people text and talk and so I just avoid the problem. It seems to get worse and worse each year.

These people who talk and text really ought to remain home rather than spending $10 to go to the movies in the first place.

Downtown location has a full liquor license. Special martinis for Quantum of Solace. Gotta love Austin.

OTTAWA — The trial of two men accused of launching an “unprovoked attack” on three moviegoers after they were asked not to interrupt a film with a laser pointer began Friday with a retired police officer describing the chaotic altercation that “exploded” in a crowded Ottawa cinema.

Ottawa police Sgt. Brian Moores, who is now retired, testified he was off-duty when he saw two men kick and punch a man cowering on the floor in the lobby of the SilverCity theatre on April 13, 2007.

Before that, the 30-year veteran police officer said, he saw a different man attacked and the same two men throwing punches at other people’s heads.

Moores said he recognized the attackers as being part of a “loud” and “boisterous” group of youths who a short time earlier had annoyed moviegoers by using the laser pointer to shine a red dot on the screen and circle female body parts during a late showing of Pathfinder, a fantasy adventure movie about Vikings fighting North American native people.

In his opening address, assistant Crown attorney Paul Attia said one of the victims attacked in the lobby, Zachary Ebel, had approached his alleged attackers during the movie and asked them to quiet down.

Ebel and his two friends, Stephane Peev and Gar Ho Lam, suffered serious injuries in the subsequent attack, Attia said.

Moores testified that after the altercation, three young men approached him, each bleeding from what the retired officer described as stab wounds.
