C'mon, It's the night before X-mas pt II. You know there's a big package all set for you, you know what you asked for, you know what things are that size, you just have a few more hours to find out what it is....

Bill,

Any word on the why "The Hoax" from Buena Vista got yanked right after it was officially announced? It was one of my favorite movies of last year, and I was really looking forward to the Blu-Ray. I ask because I saw Starz HD advertising it as coming soon to that channel last night, and was thinking how it would be nice just to own a copy.

I agree on hardware pricing - I think there are a lot of latecomers into the format war who bought HD DVDs players due to the cost, and are of the opinion that even if HD DVD had come onto the market unopposed that Toshiba STILL would have placed the players at prices as low as they are now.

In regards to software pricing, now that the format war is over, I'm hoping the online press starts taking Fox and MGM to task on their catalog title pricing.

Fair point lol, the reason i asked is because apparently Toshiba had 3 options, but cheers for answering.

It would be great if they got up on stage and announced that they were switching from using QT-1429 bolts to QT-1429b bolts in the construction of all future Toshiba nuclear power plants. And then just left the stage. WTF?

But, yeah, its about the death of HD DVD. Every respectable news organiztaion on the planet didn't just get together and make this up for the hell of it.

Bill,

I loved your DVD book when it came out a few years back. What are your thoughts on a Blu-ray book, or better yet a book on this whole format war fiasco, is it something feasible?

I bet it would sell really well... though would said author be able to tell the REAL story of what went on behind the scenes?

Bill, What are you expecting from Paramount and Universal? (Besides the obvious.)

Bill-

With the incredible amount of vitriol that has been sent your way (some of it bordering on criminal) for supporting Blu, do you feel a certain amount of vindication now that it appears that Blu-ray is the victor and that HD DVD is folding?

You should.

You should.

This site introduced me to the Bits which I have been reading on a daily basis ever since. A good read for sure!

Adding to what Rob mentioned above, I do not understand the degree to which some people invested their emotions in this format war. If they stepped back in time, I just don't think they would be able to recognize themselves as they are today.

Hey Guys,

Obviously you've probably all seen the news by now. I'll check in later this afternoon to answer some more questions.

I think maybe they should have listened to me. They'd be a lot happier right now, I suspect. But you know... as they say... you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

We did it Bill, thanks for everything.

What is up with Toshy's comments about HDM being a short lived format? Sounds like Toshy and MS don't want to join the blu party. Shame on them, well maybe not MS, not like there is much to be contributed from the company anyway

Read your article on it too, Bill. Congrats again on being right (I was reading the Bits during the old Divx battle too!). Glad it's over. I would love to hear more about what you mentioned from the Nikkei article, re: toshiba suing WB (on what grounds?) and the feeling from Paramount etc. Very interesting to say the least. While I won't miss the pointless insults, anger and FUD flying around, I will miss the intrigue a bit. Let's just hope the Blu boys don't start relaxing too much now. Now to celebrate...
