Let's see if I can get Emerson some more hilariously ironic comments.

Jeff or anyone who feels they can chime in.

It seems that Inglourious Basterds is getting a lot of good praise and I want to see it because frankly I like any film that deals with World War 2.

I dont worship Tarantino like many people do but I did enjoy the Kill Bill films quite a bit.

Im asking is this a film that a person who likes World War 2 films could enjoy or do you pretty much have to be a Tarantino lover to enjoy it?

To me it would seem that the people who have praised the film are the same who seem to think Tarantino is god and can do no wrong.

Thoughts?

Boy, I'm not sure I can be of any help because, while I like WW2 movies, I also like Tarantino. I'd say 'yes', but how can I really know?

I don't like anything Tarantino has done before Kill Bill

I like IG. It does suffer from his fetish of having characters sitting around talking for eternity, but it's not insufferable like it was in Death Proof and there isn't enough Brad Pitt, but it's a good movie

Wow, Jeff- that's a head-scratcher. Kill Bill is so quintessentially Tarantino, I can't figure out how you can like it and dislike the rest.

I usually don't like his films but loved Inglourious Basterds. In fact, it's one of the best films I've watched this year.

Merrick,

Inglourious Basterds is more of Tarantino movie set in WWII (if that makes sense). It has a great storyline, great music, great dialogue and great acting. I truly believe this will eventually pass "Pulp Fiction" as his masterpiece.

I for one loved it, but I am both a Tarantino fan and a WWII movie fan so you can't take my word for it. I will also say that for a 2 1/2 hour movie, it went by really quick.

I'd bet a dollar that it has to do with the japanese aspect of Kill Bill.

Jeff,

We've discussed before the shared hatred of the Elite brand cases when those flimsy flip trays are used. Well, I've bought several new titles lately where those cases have been used (Harry Potter 6, T4, etc.) and it looks as though they may have improved the case.

I could be on a lucky streak, but the last 5 or so 3-disc sets I've bought, the holders of the tray seem to be a bit sturdier compared to what they used to be. I've bought mostly online, so they seem to have withstood all the package handling that goes on, etc. Curious to see if you're getting non-broken Elite cases now.

Just a few months ago, I was getting broken ones left and right, but the issue appears to have been solved now.

Is Paramount going through money issues at the moment? They have like nothing on their schedule at the moment but Paranormal Activity and Godfather rereleases, and they have announced recent titles like Carriers and The Goods for DVD only.

Hong Kong film aspect. Tarantino made a love movie to the entire Hong Kong film industry full of in-jokes, and he meticulously blendeded Hollywood and HK cinema stylings to create a unique look at feel that catered to both without insulting the other. He also kept the monologs to 10 minutes or less, and most of his character interaction scenes actually. In other words he reigned his love of hearing himself talk that made his early movies terrible to a more reasonable level, and coupled it with a great action/revenge story with superb choreography=win. I'm hoping Basterds shows he's changed rather than simply being a fluke second in that vein, because I think there's a great talent in need of an editor inside there.

I haven't seen one, but I'll check out my Potter 6 when it arrives. My Terminator Salvation arrived intact.

However a DVD set I got for Mom for Xmas arrived smashed.

I hope they haven't fixed them yet, I have this whole piece I'm about halfway finished writing for the new year, and they can't ruin my rant after refusing to return my phone calls so many times because "we don't deal with consumers"

i don't think theres anything to get with TARANTINO. Hes ether a genius,or Hes pulled the wool over hollywoods eyes into thinking he is a genius.

I'm not trying to offend Tarantino fans ,cause i may be missing something, and i love movies that screw with your mind, but in the end i like to go WOW! i get it. i don't get that wow with his films.

In fact i wonder when the studio excs go wow you made a great movie, wow what a genius,he just sits back and has a good laugh. or he is a genius that makes movies as a art forum in his mind.

i'm not going to say his films are good or bad,to his credit when you watch a tarantino movie better watch ,don't talk and listen to every word.

Thank god, I thought I was the only one who hated those cheap flimsy Elite cases. What pieces of crap. Not just the 3+ disc ones with trays - even the 1 and 2 disc variants are trash. The whole frame is poorly designed, and the spine is broken so easily.

Tarantino is on Jay Leno tonight along with some football player for those interested. I follow football players even less than I do directors.

kind of crazy after the success of Transformers 2 and Paranormal Activity..I know it takes time to see the returns on recent theatrical films...but that's hard to believe.
