Now that Avatar is completed and looks like it will be a success, can we now expect Cameron to approve new transfers to some of his old films?
There has been a new rumored ultimate edition of the first Terminator, which was digitally restored by Lowry. And of course, the Alien Anthology, which is what it should be called now as opposed to the Alien Quadrilogy. Honestly, I do now think that Avatar will be one of those films that has long legs and while its doubtful it will make its $500 mill (including marketing) budget back and could end up being like Titanic. But then again...maybe not. |

I'm still waiting for Malcom in the Middle season 2 ![]() I think Avatar will make a lot of its money back, and at least break even in the end. I think the technology developed during its production will continue to make money for decades to come Cameron now will have time to supervise new transfers of his films, yes Anyone try the PocketBlu thing with Basterds BTW? Apparently I'm the only person who can't get it to work, but after surveying some other critics I appear to be the only person who's tried it too ![]() |

Looks that way
![]() I do wish they'd combined S1 and 2, There's only what, 9 eps? But beggars can't be choosers, and I'm very happy that Sony's taking a chance on one of the best shows on TV ![]() Trekkies out there, see John DeLancie in a non-evil role in season 2! |

In fact, here is an article (from way way back: six years ago, in 2003) where Fox said sales were good enough for a second season release, but music rights prevented it from happening: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Malcolm-Middle/870 |

You aren't incorrect, per Wikipedia:
Only the first season of Malcolm in the Middle has been released on DVD. Season 2 was going to be released in Autumn 2003, but was cancelled due to high costs of music clearances That said, if sales were high enough, they'd surmount the costs. So in effect - sales were high enough without the costs of clearances, - but not high enough considering them. |

According to a report, I seem to recall even more was going to missing for BD release. I think there was a German release announcement some time ago.

Jeff,
What is Universal's plans with the flippers? They've announced the Bourne movies as flippers but nothing since. Are they playing the "wait and see" game with how those sell? I am affraid that Universal is going to switch to releasing big titles (catalog or new release) as just flippers even though there is a HUGE outcry about them. If movies like the back to the future, or jurassic parks come out as flippers I will have to pass on these. I hated flippers with DVDs and will not stand for these on BLU. Can the BDA not say anything? Do you or Bill have any contacts over there to voice our concerns with these? Even if Universal sticks with flippers but offers just the blu that would be great!! Its bad that when Universal announces new titles now, everyone is hoping that it is not flipper. Take Couple's Retreat announcement today, alot of the posts (me included) make comments of, "so glad its not on a flipper". It has come to that now. Is any other studio looking at doing this as well? I would really hate to see the studios move toward this type of disc. I might just have to go back to DVD ![]() |
