Great to see that Just as you predicted Jeff they're releasing Nightmare on Elm Street to coincide with the remakes release. Are the sequels gonna follow later in the year or is that something that won't show up until the remake gets a sequel (like Ghostbusters 2 being held until 3 screens)?

Not sure on that. If New Line was still independant I'm pretty sure they would have shipped all of them together. I'd be suprised if you didn't see two or three more this year though

Which is odd, since the series only has a few entries I think will sell well on their own. The other entries really benefit from the support a box provides.

For me, I'd only likely pick up 1, 3, and New Nightmare.

4 is fun too, but definately don't see the need to upgrade 2,5,6 unless a box set price is right

I agree. Other than the completists (like me), I can't imagine a huge demand for something like Nightmare Part 5 on its own. That's why a box set would be very welcome indeed!

Good news Jeff, really starting to get into classic horror, this franchise will only help amp up my collection even more.

I just want the rest of the Friday the 13th movies. Jeff, any idea if Paramount or Warner/NL plan on popping the rest out this year?

IDK if this question has been answered, but is there any chance of seeing Stargate SG-1 on Blu Ray this year?

Virtually zero chance.

MGM can't even finance the new DTV movies right now, there's no way without a broadcast partner (and Sci-Fi just figured out that they've burned the show out completely) they could get the funding to redo seasons 1-5. Besides it's stuff like that that makes them valuable to a prospective buyer

Thanks jeff, It sucks we wont be seeing SG-1 For some time. I would buy them if they had a 4 star video transfer.

One more question, Some of the Star Trek movies PQ- Wise sucked, is there a chance of a remaster of them in the future?

Behind MGM, Paramount is the next in line studio that's starved for cash right now. I doubt we'll see something new from them for a while. Maybe when the next J.J. Abrams Trek hits Blu-ray.

No, they didn't. If you got a chance to see a theatrical print you'd be amazed how much they were able to be cleaned up.

Could they be better? Probably. Dramatically so? NOPE!

They'll never look "4-star". Check out the Atlantis disc, that's mostly a best case scenario

The Trek movies would have been very good if the DNR dial was turned down. There's a few moments in Star Trek 3 where the DNR disappeared and it looked good.

Really? Even after Transformers ROTF and Star Trek XI???
Those two alone grossed $1.2bn worldwide.

I'd've bought the Trek movies if they had the director's cuts included, personally. Is there a chance the next reissue could include them?

I know the first one needed a lot of work for this.

I'd just like a proper release of the first one with the correct framing. I've never liked the uncut version either. Makes the death scenes look extremely fake (Kevin Bacon's death especially).

How is Paramount in trouble? They usually have a few of the top 10 hits every year, and they made a ton on Paranormal Activity. Are they as poorly run as MGM?

While the framing is tighter on the uncut version of FRIDAY THE 13TH, I'm not convinced it's "wrong". Nothing feels wrong when viewing the actual Blu-ray, at least to me. There are tolerances for cropping built in when it comes to 35mm photography vs. projection. It could just as easily be that the previous versions were opened up, showing info on all four sides that was considered safe for cropping, and the uncut transfer stuck to SMPTE 1.85:1 35mm framing specs more. There was a similar controversy when Anchor Bay released Lucio Fulci's THE BEYOND on DVD and folks compared it to the ancient letterboxed Japanese LaserDisc. The LD had more picture information on all four sides, but in viewing th Anchor Bay, it never feels "cropped". It's just a matter of 35mm having some tolerances for cropping built in.

What I want is for Paramount to finally dig the uncut gore footage for PART II out of their vaults and reinstate it into the film.

Vincent
