Jeff, I think you would do well in the Diplomatic Corps for the U.N.
I bet that there are some people in the marketing division of the distributing studio who are in fact unashamedly listing Gladiator as a *feather in their cap* so to speak, on their year-end performance self-evaluations……given how real-world sales have gone so far. Is it still beating out Braveheart in that regard?

Has enough time passed to tell the truth, the whole truth concerning this matter?
Or at least clarify what you mean by “existing assets”.
Spill the beans.
I stole your decoder ring off your desk when you weren't looking. I'm afraid they'll have to decode it themselves. I've said about all I can say on the matter.

Jeff,

I skipped over Mass Effect when it was originally released because I have never been much of a fan of RPGs, but I have to admit to being very curious to try it out to see if I would like it.

I very much liked Borderlands and Im just curious if it is worth a try.

Also, do you have any contacts who might know when review embargos might be lifted on Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain and Dante's Inferno? I seem to recall that you have some contacts in the gaming industry.

Perhaps Patrick Moore (Maxpower) might know.

Mass Effect 1 is nothing like Borderlands, it's closer to Fallout 3 if a comparison must be made, but Epic Sci-Fi rather than humorous distopian. ME2 is much closer to a Gears of War style shooter than Borderlands as well. You can play ME2 without playing 1, but IMO you'd be doing yourself a great disservice. Sure all the information is there to understand it, but at (I'm guessing) 3/4 of the way though, there is so much integrated from my ME1 file, and all of the hooks present for extra richness I personally wouldn't bother. Playing on Normal you can finish ME1 doing most of the side quests and Bring down the Sky in about 20 hours or so. Your enjoyment of ME depends entirely on how much you like grand space opera. I know that there's a bunch of studios chasing them to make a movie of it, and it will be awesome, and VERY expensive if done right

The Friday before release would probably be the earliest. Heavy Rain does look good, especially since Sony is wisely letting people download and print the non-crappy artwork now. It's a real shame they didn't use all those demo PS3s to let Joe SixPack vote on it whether they want their covers full of CG characters or not.

Jeff,

With retailers now posting dates for Armageddon and Tombstone, I am curious about the latter. It was a fairly controversial DVD release years ago in terms of quality, and I'm wondering if any work has been done to it, or if that master used for the old release was "as good as it gets."

I will be picking up both. I have extremely high expectations for Armageddon, Tombstone I am a little bit more reserved. It's never looked "great"...

I believe they have done a new one, but I'll double check after my current que at Disney clears. May I assume this is a disc you want badly?

I remember Michael Bay saying that the previous master of armageddon was destroyed. In that regard Im confident that it will look decent on bluray. Armageddon is a movie that I both like and hate at the same time.

Ill never figure it out.

Want, yes. Badly, no. It is one of those ultimate "classic dude" movies that must be in every man's collection. Up there with the likes of Die Har, Predator, etc. The kind of movie you throw in when the women go out for girls night, and you have the guys over to play cards and order some unhealthy food and drink beer.

Would be great if the issues from the old version have been mitigated.

PS: I got the one I wanted really badly last year on Sept 1. However, since it would be wrong of me to deny you your fun...you can assume Raiders of the Lost Ark is one I want badly.

You know what I’m talking about.

We don’t want no U.N. diplomats, we want investigative reporters from our Digital Bits watchdogs.

Clucks the man who still won't tell anyone who he is, even in confidence

Investigative reporting is only half of it. Once you investigate, then you use the results of that to attempt to achieve the desired result, and often getting out the kleig lights isn't ghe best way to do that, bit remains a useful threat that you occasionally carry out. I feel people are more interested in results rather than dirt and scandal overall.

Please notevthe above should be taken as generic and not Gladiator related

EDIT-The ROFL smiley didn't load on my phone Seriously though, I really have said all I can on the matter, and I"m hoping that the constructive dialogs we've had on Gladiator will bear fruit.

Any time this movie is on, my wife has it on in the background. In small bites, I enjoy it a lot, but when watching it from beginning to end I always have the same reaction you do.

I remember watching it in the movie theater and getting to the point where Ben Affleck and the needless Russian dude are about to go all Evil Kenevil (trying to be spoiler free here) and I had the thought, "They could all die right now and doom the Earth to destruction and I wouldn't care." It was just too much, for no reason. To cross over to classic Hollywood, Laurence Olivier always said an actor should never show top, meaning should never go the full 100% over the top so that the audience was always aware going larger was always the possibility. With Armageddon, Bay showed no self-restraint.

I'd like to think he learned from that, his movies since then have all been over-the-top to some degree, but you always feel he could have gone further if he so choosed.

I agree. Example: Transformers 2 could have had a story.
Example: Transformers could have been faithful to the source material.

Will this and future Weinstein titles (Nine, A Single Man, etc) be released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment? Halloween II was released by them, and DeadlineHollywood suggested that there was an overall deal in process but not complete if I recall correctly.

It's very possible that Weinstein sold the video rights like they did with Inglorious Basterds. The overall deal is with Universal so far as I know, at least for video.

They're definately looking for a partner to keep them whole, I think I missed that piece on Nikki Finke tho, I've been a bit pre-occupied lately with a project

I don't think there's ANY "Oscar heat" for THE ROAD anymore. That time has past, the film made little impact or impression regardless of how good it might ultimately be. Same goes for THE LOVELY BONES (although that might snag a nomination for supporting actress for the young girl).

Now that Miramax is officially dead, how does this effect its titles that have seemed to be in Blu-Ray limbo? Does Disney still own the rights to release on Blu-Ray?
