Waaaaayyyyy ahead of you...

Given that I'm still waiting for Disney to comment on the omitted dialog on one of their own classics, Pinocchio, I figured there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell they'd actually include a lossless Japanese track on Ponyo.

Jeff,
Awhile back I noticed on HighDefDigest's website that Tremors will be released on March 9th. I posted a thread about it on this forum and several people, myself included, where wondering if it will indeed be released on March 9th since there hasn't been any news.
Thanks.

I know Universal's releasing The Complete Series on DVD that week...

There's also the 5th movie later this year...

I firmly believe that if this is true, it's another case of the template striking again

I just called Disney, and production has not gotten back to them yet on it.
I'd bet that they're just stalling on the reply on Ponyo in hopes that people will forget about the lack of a proper Japanese lossless track since it was never "confirmed" that it will be a substandard Dolby Digital track (although it certainly looks that way) and hope that J6P pre-orders it anyhow...

Very unlikely. All the studios are understaffed thanks to layoffs due to the economy. So unless things are emergencies something like this is slow boated down the 3 levels and back up them. Judging by the stuff that's been posted in that other thread people have very little understanding of how the anime industry actually works. 5.1 tracks weren't commonly created for television shows until relatively recently, and virtually nothing was animated above 480p until the last few years. In fact for about the last 10 years after they dumped cels, tragically all those shows are 480p forever because there's no film to go back and rescan. Licensing, may prevent lossless tracks since we're all one big happy region now (NOT the case with Ponyo).

And virtually all the fancy fonts you see used by digisubbers no one in their right mind would use in a professional production. The "yellow blocky subs" are the result of someone not changing over the fonts being used to generate them from the old DVD spec. Writing polite emails to the customer service depts can fix that.

Universal has a bad habit of just sneaking out the catalog titles, I really wouldn't worry about it too much. It's listed as coming

Hey Jeff,

IM curious what direction they will take with Assassins Creed III. I personally think it will take place in modern day with Desmond as the main character.

Speaking of that: am I only the one who is getting kind of annoyed by all game series taking the trilogy route?

Its now getting very annoying to finish a game to find out that you really haven't finished. I don't mind sequels to games, but it would be nice to finish a game and feel like a resolution has actually been met.

But that seems to be the trend nowadays. Is it a good one?

It's Ezio again, other than that they don't even know yet.

Game development is far too expensive these days not to plan multiples

I have no problem with them planning multiples. NONE. I just wish they would tell a complete story in each game. Have a satisfactory ending and feel like you actually won. Cliffhangers in games is just plain bad.

Resistance 2 and Halo 2 come to mind as the most frustrating.

Halo 3's ending on the otherhand was quite satisfactory, which makes it all that disappointing that are making a prequel with Halo:Reach. I would rather see them come up with a whole new adventure for Master Chief.

Why announce it, and then delay it a scant few days later? I mean I'm sure it's not something that was planned, but it makes them seem terribly unorganized.

Seeing as they don't give any information on the animated Classics that either are or aren't coming out this year, I'm sure of that.

Did Tombstone get bumped as well?

No Tombstone bump, least not yet

I would bet that it has something to do with some legal clearances being needed, or a technical difficulty of some kind.

Let's hope it is to carry over the Criterion extras (like they did with The Rock)....I don't mind waiting if that's the case!

Hi Jeff,

I noticed that Warner is releasing several double feature Blu-ray packages such as Grumpy Old Men / Grumpier Old Men.

Will there be two movie discs in each package (one for each movie) or will Warner try to squeeze both features on a single disc?

Thanks

Jeff,

In the latest The Digital Bits My Two Cents the following was posted:

Quote:
In other Fox news, the studio (along with MGM) is re-issuing a swarm of its previous Blu-ray titles on 4/6 as Blu-ray + DVD Combos (SRP $19.99 each). Titles include A Bridge Too Far, Bulletproof Monk, Commando, Dodgeball, The Graduate, Hart's War, Hoosiers, Igor, The Last Waltz, Napoleon Dynamite, Out of Time, Planet of the Apes (2001), Road House, RoboCop, Rocky, Rollerball, Speed, Super Troopers, The Terminator, The Usual Suspects, Walking Tall and Windtalkers.
Are these 'flippers'?

Jeff,

Do you think Gears of War 3 will actually come out in 2010?
Given that Halo: Reach is coming out this year Im inclined to think it wont be out this year. It seemed that the 360 was alternating between Halo and Gears of War each year.

Now that Apollo 13 is officially announced, I am wondering since April is NASA 40th, could we maybe also see a release of HBO Video's "From the Earth to the Moon"?

What studio would own distribution rights for this?
Jeff, have you ever heard talk of this for release on Blu-Ray?
