Where's Bill?!? The biggest news items (Uni & Para) and he's been rarely seen. Even his site was barely updated. I home the duder's in a last act of revenge kidnap him and tie him up and forced him to watch a dud played movie.

Actually I would be perfectly happy having only the original language track in lossless. Dub tracks have no place in any serious Home Theater enthusiast's collection.

How about someone with impaired vision? Should they listen to the original track and have someone read the subtitles to them?

I second this one. Subtitles are all very well unless you're dyslexic or blind. Besides, I prefer watching the movie instead of reading the bottom tenth of it.

If they're not giving what the consumers want, then they're losing sales. Check my sig, and I'm sure many, many others have those rules too.

Why would I adopt to Blu-ray, if all I get is the same lossy audio available on standard DVD?

Well, you raise a good point there.

How about "dubbed tracks have no place in a serious movie buffs collection unless they are visually impaired"?

I wouldn't say that for everything.

In any case, BD has the space & bandwidth for both.

I don't know how anyone could stand watching a movie with the dubbed track. It really does drive me insane seeing mouths move without matching up to the sound. <shiver>

Not to mention the fact that you lose a lot of what the actual actor is doing in terms of his performance.

That's what DVS (Descriptive Video Service) is for.

Aren't there several threads out there about tracks? Can you please start a thread OUTSIDE of Bill's insider thread and discuss there? Thanks

As for where Bill is, he's sick. Get Better Bill!

Not everyone who is visually impaired is blind. Heck, not everyone who is legally blind is blind as you think of the term.

My wife is legally blind, but gets along well enough that you usually can't even tell she's having difficulties. She can see all the things that are included in the DVS, so it's of no benefit to her. But, she can't read the subtitles, at least not to the point that she can enjoy the movie as well.

We made the mistake of seeing Traffic without realizing how many subtitles there were. I had to read her half the movie.

Please pass on the word that this is definitely unacceptable not including Japanese tracks and lossless to boot as space is certainly not the issue.
I will not watch a movie with subtitles I don't read fast enough and cant watch whats happening and read the bottom its way to distracting. I know many die hard anime fans that have huge collections hate dubs and they want the Japanese track which is ok. There should be enough room for 2 Lossless tracks one English and one Japanese.

So they should have at least both language tracks Lossless preferred or will cut down on sales of those titles that don't. That is what needs to be passed on to WB if you don't have both an English and Japanese track you will loose a certain demographic of anime buyers if you cut one out.

What if you miss the actor's performance because you are reading what he or she is saying?

Just playing devil's advocate.

Gotta disagree with you here Rob. With BDs advantages, there is no reason to not have the dub and original in lossless. Thus folks like me that love our anime but have no choice in language tracks are not hosed.

I would prefer the original language track, but I don't speak Japanese, can't read subtitles, and can't seem to find any language courses designed for the blind. Most dubs may suck, but they beat having to forego anime once vision fails beyond the point where one can read subs. I am still horribly upset that the second GitS movie did not get a dub.

One of the reasons BD is the obvious choice for the blind and legally blind is the lossless audio and the flexibility. Of course, if descriptive tracks and tracks with sub reading could be added or set up as downloadable tracks, it would be even better.

Thank you for that qualification. I have been in the hobby for well over a decade with my RP causing my vision to fail more and more each year. My seriousness as a A/V enthusiast has only grown.

Guys, Bill's thread is not the place for the dub/sub debate

I know for a fact that Bill has contacted the appropriate people to get a response on this, please wait patiently till they get back to him
