The same can be said for OAR - I don't think studios have done enough to help the confusion.
I still see or hear too many comments out, "I thought the black bars were going to disappear once I upgraded to Blu-ray!!!"

Yeah, stuff like Iron Man, Star Trek (2009) and The Dark Knight sounded horrible in Dolby TrueHD.

Yeah, they were excellent, generally I prefer DTS.

Please just see a thousand other posts on the subject of DTS and how loudness psychoacoustically= clearer, and why you can't compare two different movies as a test of a codec's performance

we are going to have to agree to disagree then. I felt the DC was BORING and went on far too long. Neither cuts are perfect by any means, but the theatrical is what I grew up on and I couldnt help but feel SORELY disappointed when I finally saw the DC since it was supposedly the "superior" version when it was released on dvd back in 2002.

All this talk about Dune puts me in the mood for the better '80's Lynch.

So... does MGM (gulp!) still control that chunk of the De Laurentiis catalog?

Got me stumped.
Is the source of all this AVS? I thought the studios didn't read that site. If that's the case, what criticism are they being too sensitive about?

Honestly, don't we, the PAYING customer, have the right to demand THE VERY BEST that BD offers? Shouldn't we be allowed to criticize when it's needed? Gladiator was a lazy, half-ass job. That film's transfer deserved to be ripped to shreds. The same goes for the original Gangs of New York and several other terrible transfers.

If they only read this forum, I'm sure they can ignore the lunatics and focus on the criticism from the majority of our sane members.

Doctorossi, this isn't directed at you at all. I just happen to quote your post as an intro.

See, and that's the problem. Not to pick on you in particular, but would you tell someone to their face that they did a "lazy, half-ass job" in those exact words? Really? When was the last time you did that?

I always remember there are human beings behind these works. Do they really deserve the words we would only use on our worst enemy?

How is that "the problem"? Not to excuse inconsiderate criticisms, but this is the nature of customer-relations in the internet age. Any consumer-facing company needs to be prepared to hear angry comments from dissatisfied customers, regardless of the arguable merits of their product. Again, this is not to excuse it, but any company that's going to retard their release plans because somebody publicly said "This sucks!" is going to have some real problems in the wild and woolly marketplace if they don't grow a thicker skin right quick.

I wouldn't have a problem using those terms. Lazy and half-ass are hardly what I'd consider to be over-the-top. Honestly, you consider the word lazy to be offensive? Wow.

Regardless of what terms anyone uses as a criticism, my point is if they produce an inferior product such as Gladiator, they need to be prepared to receive justified criticism for that product. To add salt in the wound, that title was priced as a new release at $39.99 and had a nice shiny Sapphire Series banner slapped on the front. With the rumors flying around that a new master was created for an upcoming re-release is telling. It means they acknowledged they got busted.

Again, we are the paying customer. We shouldn't have to apologize for demanding perfection, or as close to perfection as you can get.

Fan reaction is the reason we got a remastered Gangs of New York, a remastered 5th Element, and a supposed remaster of Gladiator. If Paramount (or Universal) had planned all along to produce a new master for Gladiator, then they probably would have debuted the title during the anniversary year.
