Thanks for paying us a visit. I am sure everyone here is wondering when we might hear some release information from Paramount and Universal. Even if nothing is coming soon, it'd be nice for them to at least tell us what they are planning on bringing.

Bill has an excellent article in today's Digital Bits edition. Nice update on the current situation (Paramount & Universal). A must read.

Hi Bill, I'd just like to say I can't believe the old crap (read the HTF thread) is still going on. I'm a journalist myself, although I specialize in the gaming industry, and it just boggles my mind how destructive some message boards have become. I’m not going to ask a question, but just say that I completely respect your views and outlook on all of this. You’ve always been professional, even at times when I myself would lose it. I used to visit gaming message boards rather often, but it proved futile as most are simply filled with fanboys and trying to get the public’s opinion on various situation proved useless. It’s SO sad to see the same thing happen to the home theatre boards.

It truly breaks my heart to see all the hatred still running rampant. During the Betamax days it wasn’t anything like this. My old Betamax deck was actually respected by colleagues, not like what we’re seeing now, even with the format war over. I can’t imagine how long it’s going to take for everyone to drop their fanboyisms and just get back to what we all love, watching movies. I just hope Hollywood is like the gaming industry and they treat business like business. They try to heal old wounds and build new bridges. Sure there’s a little bit of angst in the beginning, but afterwards everyone learns to get along and play nice. If only the average message board user could be more like that.

Anyways, keep up the fantastic work and as always, I’ll keep it locked to The Bits for all my home theatre needs

I would think titles will be on the shelf by mid-year, if not sooner. Same with Paramount. These things just take a little time. When they do finally start announcing titles, I think people will be surprised at how much stuff they've been working on.

Well, you know... it's a shame. I've lost it too a few times. It happens. Time heals though, so with a little luck, all this mess will be behind us soon enough. Thanks for the kind words, Elder.

Bill, why can't Paramount/Dreamworks release Blades of Glory and Transformers right now? We all know they were already pressed and ready to ship to retail. Why not release them now? Also, any hints as to the audio Transformers on Blu will have?

They're still working out some sticky financial issues with Toshiba, and I think there's a little bit of political fallout happening too. It's nothing to be concerned about. It's the usual dust settling situation. Bottom line is, the titles are coming and we'll hear official word soon enough. Can't confirm re: the Transformers audio yet. Soon hopefully, but Paramount officials aren't commenting at the moment.

I asked this on the last page, but I'll ask again:

Also, Bill, have you heard anything about Magnolia? They've had several DVD releases lately, but have been pretty quiet lately regarding HDM...

They might simply have been waiting for the dust to settle as well. I'll try to find out. I suspect a lot of indie companies will begin ramping up for Blu-ray in the year ahead, now that the format war is over. Everyone's watching for the market to grow now that the choice for consumers is finally clearer.

You said in today's post on the bits that Walk The Line is coming, do you know if they will include the new Extended Cut that is coming out or if it is just the theatrical version? I know the new DVD is supposed to have extended musical sequences and I was just curious if the Blu-ray they are working on will include any of that stuff.

It's a little early to say, until the title is officialy announced, but it would seem likely that the Blu-ray version will be similar to the new DVD.

Despite Paramount wanting tobe careful with their plans...as you said....

It would seem they would do everything in thier power to make sure high profile Day and Dates get released (ie. Sweeney Todd, Cloverfield, etc)?

I would guess the legal and financial issues prevent this?

Bill,
Did you partake in Will Smith March? Just finished first time viewing of I Am Legend and thought it was great. Didn't care much for the alt ending.

One other question from today's post, Do you know if Fox is doing a complete remaster of Planet of the Apes or are they just using the same transfer from the 35th Anniversary DVD from a few years back? This is one title I really want on Blu-ray so I hope they do a good job with it. Thanks in advance.

I know there's a lot of follow-up questions about titles, but I can't really answer specific questions about them, especially when they're far enough down the line that they haven't been officially announced. But in general, most of these titles are being remastered specifically for Blu-ray.

Love your sig-line by the way. Anyone who quotes The Dude is okay by me.

I didn't like either ending, though I actually thought the alternate one was a little more true to the book. It definitely looked great though, I agree.

Are tv shows mixed in alongside Universal's Blu movie plans?
