...you missed my point - I'm a Rotten Tomatoes critic (there's a link from my site, one I can't post here as it'd be against BD.com rules). I was being, erm, "ironical" by saying not to trust "those guys", when I'm one of "those guys"

And this, alas, is why I'm a bad writer... Can't even tell a dry joke on the interwebs... sigh...

Thanks again, Bill and Jeff. I just checked it up and and they're already up for pre-order on Amazon as "Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 (4pc) (W/Dvd) (Full Ws) [Blu-ray]".

Yes but many of them usually sell the most recent issues of popular series with very few graphic novels and the rest of it is just dungeons and dragons stuff.

i usually order from amazon or ebay.

Does the fact that Ive gone to a comic store automatically mean I should be familiar with everything Jeff has mentioned?

They were kinda seminal works of the last 20ish years (Cerebus is over 30 years old now)

Maybe so, but Ihave typically only paid attention to comic characters that have been made into movies and are well known outside of the comic community.

but Ive still got a lot of Batman novels to go through. Im gradually working my way through No Mans Land Vol 1-5, which Im willing to bet will provide a lot of influence for Arkham City.

Cerebus was at one time going to be animated, and Nickelodeon was doing a Bone movie for the longest time. For better or worse it never happened.

Bone would be a fantastic project for Disney's revitalized cel animation division with guidence from the Pixar guys. Jeff Smith is unlikely to want to give up that kind of control though

Not to mention the fact that Disney is building a very expensive E-ticket "Cars" ride right now at DCA, and it's strongly rumored to be heading to Orlando next.

Marvel is getting ready to release a Thor Omnibus and I plan to buy that so I can be ready for the movie.
Comics, like films and music, are very much down to personal taste.

If I find a comic I do like, i've looked up the title on amazon and seen what other people who have bought it have also purchased, bought some of those, and so on and so forth.

Having said that, given what you enjoy and that I like quite a few of them, some titles i've enjoyed include:

Ultimates
Conan (dark Horse new run),
Hercules & Northlanders
Hellboy
Jonah Hex, new run
Criminal
100 bullets
Powers
Justice
Iron Man (from extremi onwards),
Thor since '99,
the first 6 vol's of ultimate spiderman, the first 7 vol's of amazing spiderman
Most of Paul Dini's batman work, and the current batman confidential run

You could always buy the first vol of each, if you don't like any you can be sure to sell them on amazon for a decent price as they will resell time and again.

M

Of course you will often end up overpaying for rare ones. Marvel seems to charge the most by far. My Captain America Omnibus cost me $75, which was cover price but Amazon you can get them for a nice discount.

Dark Horse has very good Aliens and Star Wars comics. Although I think Dark Empire is decent but not great.

Were they able to get Michael J. Fox, Julie Warner and David Ogden Stiers back to reprise their roles?

Cars is entertaining, and I can see why kids love it and I know I'll be watching it 50,000,000 times once my son is a bit older, but every time I see it I wonder why no one got sued for ripping off Doc Hollywood.

Doc Hollywood is derivative itself of half a dozen other film variations on the "City Slicker finds meaning in simple small town life" theme

Pretty much.

If you're familiar with the term 'graphic novel', in the first place...

Hey Bill- a quick note on today's (much appreciated) update:

The original Australian English dialogue track on Mad Max, while a great pleasure to see confirmed for this release, was actually "new to the States" the previous time the film was released in the US, several years ago.

Well Jeff

Our old buddy Steve Jobs apparently is the next ruler of the Earth.

He got the highest approval of all CEOs.

The film being released next week is not the orginal 1970 version, so it can hardly be called "old school George Lucas". In 2004, lots of CGI and editing changes were made. Some of them are shown here:

http://www.maverick-media.co.uk/movi...anges_001.html

The documentary on the DVD doesn't even mention this fact.
