Superman Returns did well, and the mainstream public has no issue with it.

It's ONLY the fanboy/internet-rage types that get up in arms about it (noting personal Doctorossi). As we can see by the returns on Kick-Ass, Watchmen, and Scott Pilgrim, catering to that crowd gets you box office disappointment.

Man of Steel would have followed in the tradition of Star Trek II and X2, with a far superior sequel once you got the origin/reaquaint baggage out of the way.

THIS is why I was/am disappointed with WB rebooting things yet again. I think Singer would have delivered a very good sequel - I liked Returns a lot, though I did feel it had a lot of flaws, flaws that likely would have been avoided with a sequel. It's too bad he won't get the chance now, and it absolutely sucks Routh won't likely be given the chance to play the role again no matter who is directing.

Speaking of which, if you never read the adaptation of Robocop 2's original script, I highly recommend it. It was much better.
Was that written by Frank Miller?

Thats usually how it always is. Comic fanboys are seldom happy with how a movie plays out.

Although most comic fans seem to have liked the Nolan Batman films mainly because they drew inspiration from the best Batman graphic novels: (Year One, The Long Halloween and The Man Who Laughs)

I dont know where to start with Green Lantern.

However, playing Arkham Asylum is what got me reading graphic novels again. Right now, Im reading up on Captain America and Thor so I can get a good idea of what to expect when the films come out.

Miller is still credited with the screenplay and even has a cameo, ironically in a scene he didn't write

Kickass did quite well actually, based on ROI. Watchmen also made good money

Scott Pilgrim bombed because it had zero appeal to anyone over 25, and that's probably stretching it. Michael Cera didn't help, and the woke thing looked like a terrible DNZ fan fiction

Ugh, hope it's not ANOTHER reboot. Just keep going. I hate getting the origin stories again and again and again.

Don't fix what ain't broke, and comparing Brandon Routh with Adam West is simply cruel and unnecessary

One man did honor to the character he was given, and most fans would not have a problem with him playing Superman again

Another man mocked it and poisoned the character for over a decade after. It took Neal Adams to bring it back.
Yeah, I didn't have a problem with Routh. He was good.... Spacey was good... the script was crap and the pacing was boring, so Singer definitely deserves some of the blame of which there's plenty to hand out.

Jeff, don't make me do it... oh... here it comes...

All I'm trying to say is that the Donner version is stale, simply because we've seen it so much and it's all we've seen for so long. Would you be excited about another Burton-style Batman movie right now? I wouldn't. And not from a qualitative standpoint. I happen to think the Nolan stuff is worlds better, but that's beside my point. The other interpretations have run their courses. Give Superman some fresh blood.
And no LEX LUTHOR ether.

Is there any actor out there that is built like Superman ,and can act! These muscle costomes are boring.

Lex Luthor needs to always be involved no matter what.

That doesn't mean he needs to be the main threat, but he needs to have some sort of presence.

Corporate Lex is best.

American Beauty was one of my day 1 titles - something that I knew I'd upgrade to blu-ray as soon as I saw my first disc in action.

Today's review suggests a mediocre effort on the part of Paramount once again on their "Sapphire Series". Is it too early to start to ask Paramount what went wrong and how they intend to fix it?

Wait until the disc arrives and judge for yourself.

There are certain films that are just never going to look perfect.

As long as American Beauty looks noticably better than the DVD Im gonna be happy.

Martin Liebman's technical reviews tend to be pretty spot on.

"noticeably better than DVD" is not good enough if a film should look better.

If you're going to brand something "Sapphire Series" - it should shine.

I agree, but Im gonna wait for the disc to arrive and judge for myself. I just think too much emphasis is being placed on freezing images and getting out the magnifying glasses.

Or water (*cough*, Bond). Superhero movies need to be epic. Save the world, or at least the city or your loved ones or something... nothing so mundane.

I've never seen the movie, so I'm not in a really good position to comment on how it looked originally

Judging soley by the screenshots, it looks like an older scan, but what I would expect a movie of its vintage (late 90s lower budget arthouse-y flick) to look like overall in terms of detail levels
