See Jeff, I always thought they actually drew the animated characters onto the film by hand in movies like Roger Rabbit, guess not.

They did. The toons were hand animated and optically composited. Nowadays they can make a CG character look like a cartoon, and when you're combining them with live action, CG is 1/10th of the headache because fixing errors takes 2 hours instead of 2 days

I'll believe Roger Rabbit 2 when I see it hit a theatre. The story of the previous attempt at the sequel is one of recent Hollywood's greatest legends. And the moral of the story is 'don't get on the wrong side of Steven Spielberg'.

Who got on the wrong side of Spielberg?

There was also talk of an E.T. sequel back in the day titled Nocturnal Fears.

I also remember a few years ago that Drew Barrymore had supposedly pushed and opened Spielberg's mind up to the possibility of an ET sequel.

It would be interesting to make a sequel that takes place 30 years later in which everyone is all grown up and has children themselves.

It's a monumentally protracted and convoluted story, most of which should be available online.

Well, ET, itself, started life as a Close Encounters sequel and it still, more or less, is one.

There was a novelization done of the treatment, called "ET and the Green Planet" or something like that. My memory of it is super hazy, but it starts out on his homeworld and he ends up coming back

I can imagine a story following an adult Elliot who has settled into a rather uneventful life, but is still haunted by the memories of his childhood friend... who suddenly returns! I think something like that could be very cool and it would be right up Spielberg's Peter Pan alley.

Jeff, I know it's not necessarily Bluray related, but have you or any of the Digital Bits team heard anything about the looooong awaited and overdue Muppet Show Season 4 on DVD?
I've been scouring for news on this but haven't heard as much as a peep.
Any insight would be welcomed!

I know that is what the title says, and that the guy (at least asquoted) called it DVD but from the context, it is obvious he meant physical media.

I don't think 35 is as marketing friendly as 30. I also don't think JAWS is quite in the same league.

That said, as much as 2012 makes sense to me, it'll only be real with an announcement. More than anything else, I feel the 30th anniversary will make anything before 2012 highly unlikely.
