Yes, he was using DVD as a catch-all for the physical

The Apocalypse Now story will go up sometime in the morning, we're waiting for some assetts to come through, but it's going to be pretty awesome.

Jeff and Bill,

Regarding SANTA SANGRE and the Digital Bits most recent update, while SANTA SANGRE has never been released on region 1 DVD in any form, the uncut version was released theatrically, on VHS, and on LaserDisc in the U.S.

I still have the LD, which while time-compressed to make the couple-minutes-over-2-hour movie fit on a single CLV LD, is the uncut version of the film.

Jeff, that Apocalypse Now interview is excellent. It could've been a lot of pages longer, but perhaps that wouldn't be so interesting to other folks . I knew this release would be great, and this makes me want it even more.

I'm feeling like having Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks under the same umbrella might be the perfect recipe for a solid Roger Rabbit sequel. I'm half surprised nobody has pitched "Roger Rabbit and His Adventures Across the Third Dimension".

Finally, being in a different time zone paid off. Usually we're the last to find out about certain things .

ET sequel? Hell No. ET is very near the top of the list of Movies That Should Never Have a Sequel. Hell, after Williams scored the final scene of ET leaving Spielberg rightly killed the planned final scene of Elliott in charge of the D&D game because the movie had achieved ending perfection at that point.

Sequel? Give me a break. - Gert

Sony has 1 new catalog on the schedule for the rest of 2010 (River Kwai). Uh, that ain't good. In 2011, are we going to see an even bigger slowdown on catalogs? It appears Disney, Sony, Paramount, and Universal are barely releasing any right now. WB is still providing and I'm not sure what Fox's stance is at the moment.

What can we really expect in 2011? Is it going to be just a handful of catalogs each month, then 1 major title from everyone in Q4? Next June is year 5 and we still haven't had that boom in catalogs yet. There's still a ton of stuff unreleased. I know we're getting some good stuff later this year, but there's plenty of non A-list titles I would love to have. Stuff like The Talented Mr. Ripley, A Simple Plan, and other non-explosive talky dramas.

Do they have a plan to give catalog a boost?

Because it is a beautiful, nearly perfectly executed film full of magic & wonder that fully told it's story which will only be diminished by some lame-ass cash grab about saving the world from global warming or whatever crap they came up with.

It's tough to get much slower than stalled. I suppose a product recall would be the equivalent of throwing it in reverse.

For the record, here's the interview on The Digital Bits:

Going Up River: Inside Apocalypse Now on Blu-ray

It's the result of nearly an hour-long discussion with Lionsgate's Senior VP of DVD and Blu-ray Production, Miguel Casillas, and Zoetrope film archivist James Mockoski (who supervised the new restoration of the film), along with colorist Doug Delaney and Jay Miracle, the editor of the Hearts of Darkness documentary (he also worked on the original Apocalypse Now). Lots of discussion of the aspect ratio, the new 4K transfer, mastering and color-timing, and some specific discussion of both the extras that carry over from the Dossier DVD release and also the new content exclusive to Blu-ray. Plus screenshots comparing both the 2001 master with the new 2010 presentation. Hope you all enjoy.

12:01 AM Pacific! We'd planned on Monday morning, but we were waiting on Zoetrope for a couple of things and it took longer than expected. Should be worth the wait though - it should answer all the key questions.

Thank you. Yeah, we really wanted to get right to the meat of things - answer all (or most all) of the questions fans would have about the release.

Bill, any word on what happened to Big Daddy? It had an early November date and then it just got yanked.

Thanks for that Vincent. I'll update. Wish I could go to some of the NYC events this week. That master class would be fun to see.

Jaws isn't in the same league as E.T.???? Jaws invented the "Summer Blockbuster". And it hasn't aged badly at all. And I'm sure this movie kept people from getting in the ocean for a looooong time.

Adjusted for inflation, E.T. is #4 with $1.1 billion US. Jaws is at #7 with $1 billion.

They are in the same league. But I'll take Jaws over E.T. any time. E.T. is definitely not one of my favorites from Spielberg.
