BTW- Image Entertainment has snagged the Cowboy Bebop movie as part of their deal with Sony. No Blu-ray currently in the mix however. I'm going to see what's up in that area and if there's any news, I'll send it back

My consolences go out to the family and friends of Stephen J Cannell. He created a heck of a lot of TV series including the A-Team, 21 Jump Street and The Greatest American Hero.

I worked with Anchor Bay back in the day, and along with one of their guys there we pushed hard for their acquisition of the Cannell TV library (now at Mill Creek since AB is essentially been assimilated by Starz). Originally I was going to help produce and shape a lot of the bonus material for those sets, but they brought all the production in-house. Which is a shame cause I was totally looking forward to interviewing Peter DeLuise in Stargate Command It's sad that i didn't do it, because there's an episode of GAH that centers around the song "Eve of Destruction", and because they obviously ordered them to replace all the music in the shows, the characters spend half the show talking about a song that's not there I doubt that the parties involved knew about it and just filled the order. Sad really

We had some pretty cool extras planned out, including going around to all the Jump Street schools (they used a lot of them 2-3 times) and interviewing former faculty and students. We had a bunch of other stuff that I'm not remembering too.

He sold off his studio lot when his TV shows died, and spent the rest of his days writing crime novels.

Yeah I played it the day it came out

That said I had some major dissapointments this weekend. I got a look at the new Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Someone someday is going to teach a class comparing that to the original. The scenes they tried to do verbatim were so off in the pacing it was jarring and there was no suspense. Makes you really appreciate how good Wes craven was on that movie. I won't even get into the neutering of the entire point of the original film. No blood fountain cause Beaver had to live, no ceiling spin, and changing Freddy's character completely for no reason just drove me crazy. I was hanging in there till the midpoint when they just gave up even pretending they were supposed to be the same movie

Then I found The Chocolate War on Netflix, and it was one of my favorite books as a teenager, and I didn't even know there was a movie. Man I loved itright up to the last ten minutes. It was literally virtually verbatim right out of the text exactly the way I want it. While the direction was a little spotty, and they tried keeping the focus off Jerry in a way that didn't quite work. Then they changed the ending to an uplifting one where Archie gets his instead of the proper downer ending, and totally destroyed the character arcs of the previous hour and 30, and made Brother Leon into a nice guy instead of a bastard at the same time.

*sigh*, so close. At least it had the Man they Call Jayne

*sigh*

i don't want them to do anything at this point because it just gets worse and worse every time they touch the series.

recently i was flipping through channels and caught a bit of episode 2. it was so painful to watch the horrendous acting and listen to the dialog that i could not stand to watch but a few mins of it.

would be nice for the original 3 to be released individually.

Even though I really enjoyed his Dawn of the Dead remake, I was very disappointed in Watchmen. He seems to be in the same league as Michael Bay (kings of style over substance).

I was hoping that Robert Zemeckis was going to get the job. I guess that rumor was bogus.

An overly animated, overly dark & gritty, over the top Superman.

Yeesh.

Hopefully Nolan will act as the control rod to keep his more extreme notions under control. Superman could benefit from a stylized Watchmen look and feel (with a brighter palette), but less stylized action

Snyder's heart is in the right place, I just don't know if he's capable of delivering. I'm hoping Nolan will end up his better half

Here Merrick, you'll have fun with this

Do you think that Tony Gilroy will be enough to convince Matt Damon to come back as Jason Bourne?

There will be another Bourne film, but would Universal dare try it without Damon....

I hope not.

After the performance of The Green Zone, they might be a little more ready to roll the dice.

Just saw this post, any updates would be really appreciated as Cowboy Bebop is one of my all time favourite anime series.

Eh, aside from Greengrass's inability to locate a supplier of tripods, steadycams or rolls of film longer than 75 frames, I'd say it has more to do with the psychological. The American public doesn't have enough seperation since these wars are still going on and everyone knows know, aside from a few diehards that it was predicated on fraud. It hits too close to home to something people are trying to ignore, and therefore they ignored this movie. The same film would have done much better 15 years from now.

Right now they seem to be just repackaging existing discs, sometimes with little bits of new material. Any Blu release is next year sometime, probably 2-3Q. I'll be talking to my friends at Bandai this weekend and see what they have to say (if anything)

Mine, too, but I thought the movie forgot to put the humor in.

That may be 1,000% true, but you know the Hollywood marketing math. You're only as hot as the opening-weekend gross of your last picture, reasons be damned.

The question is:

Would Universal DARE try to make a Bourne film without Matt Damon?

I seriously hope not....

Agree 100% on the comments about Green Zone.

It's so soon since the last one, I think they would probably value his good graces (future relationship) too much to do so, unless they really had his blessing.
