So...what's the outlook for 2011? 2010 is pretty much over, time to look to 2011 for fresh catalog releases and possible blu-ray changes.

If Universal and Sony release my top 3 next year, I'll be thrilled.

But we do know WB will be releasing Citizen Kane and Ben Hur. Criterion might release The Game. Universal has a nice list for next year, including The Birds. Hopefully Paramount won't push back Indy again. Fox will probably have True Lies, The Abyss, and the restored Terminator 1 ready for next year. Jurassic Park would be nice too.

I would LOVE to see some Universal monster releases as well. We have some great titles already, but there are plenty of other classics that we haven't gotten yet.

I'm gonna need some more of my top 20 in 2011.

Atame!, Blue Velvet, Chinatown, Das Boot, La Grande Illusion, Pasqualino Settebellezze, Rashomon, Singin' In the Rain, Vertigo, I'm looking at your delinquent asses!

Some of the nice titles that are out in other markets would be good, too- Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa, Tora! Tora! Tora!, etc.

I wouldn't hold your breath for that one. Lucasfilm has already announced Star Wars 1-6 is coming next year.

I think those are good bets...a lot of which were supposed to come THIS year and were pushed back.

Maybe we can get Jaws out of Universal too...

Now now, George only has 9 movies he can sell to you again and again, and those 3D versions are coming awfully fast....

Mr. Cameron can only do work on the movies so fast, and he's personally supervising them as well as working out Avatar 2/3. It's just not happening as fast as some of us would like.

The Spyglass acquisition of MGM has been approved by their creditors. So what does this mean?

1- There is a good chance that MGM's distribution would move to Paramount when their current contract with Fox expires, as that's Spyglass's current movie partner studio.
2- They will obviously want to get the studio cranking out content again quickly, obviously Bond 23 will be put on the fast track (with Craig unknown, but likely they will at least partly un-imagine the franchise to put it back closer to what it should be and not the Bond Identity). Word on the street is that they're especially interested in getting the TV division at MGM, which has been largely stagnant sans Stargate rolling, and probably get things like the RoboCop remake back on track

Either way, expect there to be a 3-6 month period where MGM stuff is in short supply sometime in the next 12 months

Jeff,

Does this mean that we can say goodbye to MGM catalog titles once Paramount starts distributing? Paramount doesn't even seem to be interested in releasing their own catalog titles on blu.

Do you have any idea how many more blu-rays we'll see from the MGM/Fox relationship before it switches over?

No, MGM decides their own destiny, just like they do with Fox.

No idea what's going to happen right now. There's too many x-factors

Paramount has been releasing Dreamworks titles and would probably do the same with MGM.

I just hope that when it's all sorted out that they'll get back to releasing more Bond movies on BD... and without "bundling" already-available movies with previously-unreleased ones in collection packs. I don't want to have to re-buy 13 Bond movies just to get the 9 that haven't been put out yet.

So, is that an official "hint"? The last three year we've been let down with Indy...I still say it will be held til Indy 5 at this point, especially with Star Wars 1-6 coming...I hope I'm wrong.

I was under the impression Terminator 1 was done, just awaiting the proper release window...

I would really like Willow but it may be one of those movies that is shelved indefinitely and will never come out on this format.

It'll be sooner I think. Robopocalypse is next for Spielberg and that releases in 2012. No way they wait 3+ years to release the Indy set.

Who knows, Indy could be a nice strong Spring '11 release. I mean, why not? Lots of players and PS3s will be sold in the next 2 months.

I don't know, other than stuff like Batman(I think) and LoTR you just don't see box sets coming out other than around the holidays a lot, yes it would be a very pleasant surprise.

Yeah, hopefully they surprise us. Indy did debut first on DVD back in October 2003. Star Wars followed in September 2004. Hopefully it debuts first again.

American Graffitti is coming too, although it hasn't been officially announced yet. I just don't see Lucas releasing both Star Wars and Indy in the same year. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise us. If it were to happen, I'd say it would hit in the spring. I thought that we'd see Indy first, especially since it was initially planned to hit at the same time as KOTCS.
