My friend had an Amiga, but we never did. I did however do 3 of my 6 years of Mac support with an ex-Commodore engineer (Commodore HQ was 20min from my house) who felt much the same way. They were great computers, way ahead of their time. They were using them in Hollywood for low budget productions (editing and FX) up through the late 90s, well after Commodore went the way of the dodo

My first computer was the Comodore 64. I wanted an Amiga as a replacement but my parents came back with an IBM PS2 model 30.

Speaking of 80s computers, a blu of TRON seems conspicuously absent right now. Do the various theories out there about why have any weight?
(Also, the director said he was working on a new transfer. Does that mean the version recently shown on HDnet is going out the window?) |

I don't know what the conspiracy theories are saying, but the new master was finished rather recently. I don't have HDNet, so I can't say if they've been showing the new one or not. I know the film well enough that I'd probably spot the kind of tweaks he was talking about making if I did watch it.
Tron should come out the same time as legacy, and it should look about as good as it can without going back and repainting/compositing the entire movie (one of the reasons among many that I hope that Legacy does boffo box office, personally I'm expecting it to do much better in Europe and Asia than it does here). Please also keep in mind that the humans in the computer scenes, barring a remastering miracle can and will look like total garbage due to all the optical compositing. ![]() |

The HDnet version was on back in the spring, it looked "un-tweaked" to me. (The rumor was some kids at focus groups were shown the original movie, thought it was goofy, and they didn't want that sentiment around for the sequel.)

While I'm sure they did focus group the original, and that is certainly a likely outcome, I would say that when they put it up on a screen to evaluate the master, they decided to redo it. If you saw it in the spring, it was not the new master
Disney home video knows very well the market for Tron by now. They've been selling it for closing in on 30 years ![]() I can't say if there will be new extras, the original DVD producer, Robert Burnett is off making his own movies and last time I talked with him he hadn't been contacted at all. Often they'll ring them up to see if there's any leftovers from the last go-round that didn't get finished they can do up cheaply for a re-issue ![]() |

Jeff, what's the idea behind including a dvd of "The shop around the corner" with the blu-ray of "You've got mail"? Why not a double-feature with both movies in high-def?
I'm guessing they don't want to hurt sales for a possible future release of the classic, but then why include anything at all? If they want to promote classics among new buyers, wouldn't a HD presentation be much better? Do they think anyone who bought the blu-ray will want to watch an old movie in SD, and like it so much that they'll buy it whenever it's released on blu-ray? It's the only productive outcome I can think of... I understand the current solution is cheap but the old movie must have been mastered in HD back in the day anyway so at least they could have included an encoding of that. Thanks |
