If reports are true, then it's good to hear he's okay. I totally forgot he was out there until I randomly checked this board.

I'll be praying for his safety.

you are right, we don't know if he is/was in Japan or not.

I was not sure, I'm not a regular in this thread, I had just heard that Jeff was in Japan (by what I've read) I'm sorry it was just a general "Hope you are well" from a less than knowledged person. I'm sorry for the confusion.

I don't think Jeff has family in Japan, rather this trip of his is a semi-business trip of sort (per our earlier communications). He was meeting with a few (if not several) executives in Tokyo before he get a couple days off or something. All in all, Jeff, hope you are doing ok and stay safe!

Quoting The Bits, "We'd love to say that Patton and Master and Commander have been given new HD masters, but it's unlikely as these appear to be the same discs as before, just with new packaging."

Interesting.
Well, the “device” didn’t work last evening. Perhaps the batteries ran down.

I don’t quite understand. For the record, are you saying that Jeff Kleist specifically called you from Japan and left a message on your phone saying in some fashion that he is physically perfectly fine?

If so, you are quite the special one . Is it possible for you to post a transcript of the message?...or, at least be a little more exact as to his situation. What city is he in? Where is he staying, etc. As I’m following the drama on TV when I return home each day from work, it’s apparent that the true heroes in this tragedy are the workers at the nuclear power plant who stayed behind to do their best to keep cooling the reactor in order to save the rest of the surrounding population.

Dude, nothing to be sorry about. Heck at this point I’m as confused as you are. Jeff calls/texts SpaceDog information that “he's shaken, but not stirred” but doesn’t make *an all is well* post in his thread to all his fans, despite evidence of logging-in on more that one occasion.

Also, probably unbeknownst to many here, the Insiders, Moderators and Ownership have their own Private Forum on this site which is restricted from mainstream membership and to which Jeff contributes and I can’t find any post from Jeff in that forum related to his situation.

I didn't respond to indicate I'm special - I just know there is concern here so I wanted people to know he's ok. I sent him a chat, and received the following:
"trying to salvage the business side of my trip and recovering from the earthquakes"

I don't know his ability or inability to communicate as I'm sure cell and internet service in Japan right now are spotty at best. I'm just glad that he's OK and wanted you all to know that he's OK in spite of not having the opportunity to respond.

In terms of devices logging someone's presence online I only speculate from my own experience. Between my iphone, ipad, and home computer, any number of those devices represent me as online and active even when I'm not present. I've even had some of them move me from idle to active for one reason or another. While I don't know that he'd have something stateside that's up and running while he's away, anything is possible.

I don't think he's actively choosing not to communicate.

Shaken but not stirred was a "cute" paraphrase on my part. Not his words.

Given that the only time I've seen any online status from him (apart from blu-ray.com) was that one moment when I was not online, I'd hesitate to speculate on any login detail here being accurate. Again, I think access to any kind of communication method is likely difficult, and nobody should assume he's visiting the site and not updating his status. I have no doubt if he was visiting the site at all, he'd be hitting his own thread, and likely would have replied "OK Guys - Busy" or "OK Guys - hard to get online".

He's not someone to actively cut anyone off who has concern for him.

That works.

I think the first phrase especially clarifies that he is physically o.k.
By the way, what does Jeff actually do for a living...I mean to bring in income?

I can only offer what's been presented here - I know he does a lot of work promoting and working with Japanese music and getting them promoted here in the states. Beyond that I've had way too many geek-oriented questions for Jeff to ever get around to asking him more about his living

Bill, any word on the 3 Robotech anime coming to blu-ray this year? I want to get the protoculture collection but I'll hold off if the shows are getting an HD transfer.

Default Bluray releases

How does the industry go about choosing which movies or concerts will be released in the Bluray format?
I wish they would release some of the older "live" concerts that are on standard DVD to the Blu format.I see a lot of the hard rock being released lately and I want to see some pop and country released.
So....who decides what is going to be released?

You are far more likely to see a new concert hit blu-ray than an old one. The home video houses will judge such releases based on the install base and whether they think the target market for a concert will upgrade to blu-ray.
Further, a lot of concert material that is on DVD was shot on SD Video, you are very unlikely to see an upgrade on those. Concerts that were shot for HD or on film are more likely.

If your favorite act is current, your best first hope for blu-ray is that they make a new concert disc from a new tour.

And then there is the none-log-in log-in. Don't know what he uses to get on-line, but on my desktop I have it on my favourite links bar. I have already came home and on the site and know someone clicked here by mistake because my last log-in was not the last time I visited the site.

don't know where else to post this and since there was a discussion on LOTR in this thread already. Did anyone else see the news today? If my count is right, there is 5 disks per movie and 3 are DVD extras (Costa Botes Documentary, and two Appendices) and DC will be on-line. Does that mean we have what we want (each movie split on two BDs)?

I'm not sure if there is an official announcement, but as all special features have been listed "on DVD" and we know 2 of the DVDs are the Appendices, it seems to stand to reason that the films are spread across 2 BDs.

With all of the tragedy going on in Japan, its at least great to hear some good news. Everywhere I turn I hear more reports about well, you know, more tragedy. Thank you SpaceDog for delivering at least a bit of good news.
