This is the key. In a dark room this is an awesome choice. I also wonder how much it goes back to CRT & power conservation - which was surely a consideration back when TDB launched.
Actually it's cause it looks cooler

I said liked, I never said loved or even really liked. Everyone I talked to said it was decent, but not great. I take that to mean "liked"

"Decent" does not a franchise make.

For me the bolded part is the important news. Superman Returns having DTS-HD audio is a nice touch, although I was one of the few who had the lossless audio version of Superman Returns, but I sold my Superman blurays so I could get this set.
I'd be excited if a) I could buy the first film by itself and b) I didn't already own Superman Returns with PCM/TrueHd, so that disc is basically worthless to me since, aside from the Krypton scene, I already own the same disc. The things that would really sell me on the set (new transfer of the Donner cut, Fleischer cartoons in HD, and a new, healthy encode of Superman Returns) have all equated to a major fail on WB's part.

Major fail? Man I think thats harsh, but hey opinions are what allow the world to function. The new transfer of the Donner cut doesnt mean a whole lot to me since I truly doubt it would look all that much better than how it currently looks.

You know what would be REALLY cool?

Is if Warner created a create-your-own-cut Superman 2. There are certain Lester scenes I would have kept in like the way Lois discovers Clark is Superman, I actually liked that scene in Lester better AND most importantly I hated the turn back the world ending to the Donner cut and would have rather kept the memory kiss. I dont many (if anyone) to agree with me on those two things though.

It also would have been nice if Warner had included absolutely all of the deleted scenes from the KCOP version cut of Superman on the disc.

I basically agree. I like both cuts and think they both have advantages over the other. The best version of Superman 2 would be one with a little from column A and a little from column B. But that's obviously never gonna happen, as it's all subjective anyway. Glad to finally be getting both cuts on blu.

And I never liked the memory kiss, but I definitely prefer it to re-using the ending from part 1 (and yes, I know that it was originally conceived as part 2's ending, but the decision to use it in part 1 was made before Donner got the boot.)

Choosing between two turds is never easy.

Superman 2 will always be a crime in film. Although, I dont think Lester's Superman 2 is that bad at all. It just doesnt hold up near as well as the first film. The Brando scenes are easily the best part of the Donner cut.

ABC used to air a version similar to what you're talking about. I had a dub of it that I watched like a religion when I was growing up. Hell, I'd never seen the theatrical cut (never knew it was different) until I got the original DVD set and was like, "What the f am I watching?"

Back to the set, I see it as major fail because arguably the best elements of the set, aside from the first film, are what're getting the shaft. I mean, in comparison to the Fleischer cartoons in HD and Superman Returns given proper treatment (I know some will argue that one, but it's an EASY fix) are new masters of Superman 3 and 4 really a selling point? I think a lot of people are buying the set in spite of their inclusion, not because of it. The master of Returns is obviously fine, the current release is just bit starved. I was SO glad to finally be rid of HD DVD's legacy, but here it is again. Frustrating.

Selling points for me are new masters of Superman 1 and 2.

I agree the improvement to the first is a definite selling point. I'd be all over it if I could get just the first with better video and lossless. But to buy the whole set for the one piece that actually shows some effort? Nuh uh. I'm willing to bet the "new hd transfers" of 3 and 4 are just the DVD masters . . . in hd. Wouldn't surprise me at all at this point.

When Disney offers up one of their discount coupons, why is Amazon always excluded? It's always in-store only coupons. Does Disney not realize people buy BDs online? I usually email Amazon about those offers and always get the canned "we don't pm offers" responses. It just doesn't make sense, on both ends. For Disney, the discount shouldn't be limited to Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc. And for Amazon, why wouldn't you match that $10 off coupon? When Amazon denies these requests, they are saying "no, we would rather you go to Best Buy instead."

I buy almost everything from Amazon. It would just be nice if they were included in these promos.

No offense dude, but why are you telling Jeff about this? He doesn't work for amazon and cant make them accept these coupons. If Im wrong and Jeff CAN do something then by all means I hope he does, but you are better off getting in touch with amazon management. Sometimes I have to up to someone higher, but they have always been reasonable in helping me out.

Jeff,

You posted the following in the https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...cussion-4.html thread:

Are you able to elaborate at all?

Also, is there any speculation as to when we'll see Castle in the Sky and My Neighbors the Yamadas in the US? Thanks!

I was looking for his feedback on the issue; certainly not yours. It's kinda like when you ask him about every single game that gets released. Just looking for feedback. He has been asked about miniscule things like BD packaging, so I thought it was safe to ask/mention BD promotional issues. So I'll continue to ask him things directly without getting pre-authorization from anyone else.

Marketing & Couponing might be different, but this is probably a good starting point.

I imagine that BVHE would have to update the coupon to have an online component.

Yeah, I'll check there. I emailed Amazon the link to the coupon and explained to them that I'd like the same offer that I can get from Best Buy. But of course, they said no. They'd rather me buy from their competitor. I guess turning down customers is the right thing to do in today's economy.

The problem for Amazon is that the coupon for retailers is same as cash. This is why stores should NEVER be difficult about accepting them. Since they can't receive the paper and process it - BVHV would need to create a method for them to receive the credits into accounting.

I think it sucks - I agree - but I think it comes down to Disney.

Fair enough. I wasnt trying to sound mean and I admit that I should have gotten that you were talking about it from a promotional aspect and not an amazon aspect.

Nevertheless, its best to talk to amazon customer service. In my experience they have been surprisingly friendly on issues like that. CALL THEM though if you dont get a good response via email or chat.

For the record, I usually talk to Jeff about games that he and I share a common interest in. Mass Effect is the most obvious example and L.A. Noire coming up.

It was a sort of vent/whadda think type of post. I don't know if he has Disney contacts or not. I just think it's bizarre that Disney limits their coupons to in-store retailers.

I mean, customers are important, especially nowadays when people are being selective on what they buy. The fact that Amazon denies the request to match a coupon that I can use at one of their main competitors just makes no sense. So it's kinda frustrating from both sides.
