Default HDMI cables

Ok, I got it start off w/ cheaper hdmi cables and can always compare them w/ more expensive and return if necessary. Really electronically illiterate. Don't know how many HDMI cables I need. As of now all I have is a 42 inch bravia Lcd tv, comcast cable and now a panasonic blu-ray. I will be expanding to a home theater set up in the future, but want to set up blu-ray now. I've read so many blogs and forums on hdmi cables and i think the concensus is to buy a cheaper cable. Great, but there are so many out there i am still confused as to which i really need. All I know is that a 4 meter cable will suffice. Confused as to gold, silver, ultra high speed... Would be highly appreciated if any1 can give me a straight answer. Thanx.

Welcome.

I got mine from MyCableMart.com. I paid $6.29 each for them (2M). Forget all the hype. Digital signals either work or they don't. Everything else is just marketing. When I bought my TV, they tried to sell me an HDMI cable for $119.99. So somebody out there is making a lot of profit off the uninformed.

As for the 4 meter length (13 feet), unless you have your components scattered all around the room, 6 foot (2 meter) cables will keep you from having large coils of cable behind your set. You will need one for each device that is HDMI capable.

Also, try the search function in the Forum menu. There are lots of sources for cheap, high-quality cables.

If you spend hundreds of dollars on a USB cable, all your file transfers on your computer will turn out to be better quality too!

they way i see it you probably need 2 HDMI cables once to hook up ur blu ray player to your TV and the other to hook up ur comcast box (if it is a HD box) to the back of ur TV. Make sure its 1.3 compatible, and you can probably get everything you need from monoprice.com

WOW!!! You mean to tell me that there is a company that is ripping people off MORE than Monster? Please tell us the manufacturer name so that we can blast them repeatedly all over the internet until it gets annoying.

I don't suppose that your middle initial is 'S' ???

Quick question, on a blu-ray player with 5.1 or 7.1 audio out, can you use that to a receiver/processor and then an hdmi cable straight to the tv?

You mean analog from player to the receiver and then HDMI (only video) from player to the TV? Of course.

Thanks, that's what I figured, but I wasn't sure since hdmi was all in one. I'm assuming in the systems menu there is a way to set video to hdmi and audio to analog.

Monoprice is not only a great place to buy cables.

Monoprice is an experience that will enrich and enhance your life inside and outside the realm of home audio.

I told my Art Director about monoprice.com and when he saved over 600.00 in cables and was totally impressed with how they treated him, he cut me a check for the tip AND gave me a full time job with benefits.

They say its not who you know, but who you blow....but sometimes...its who you send to monoprice.com

Good luck and enjoy.

May your new life be fill with much happiness.

Being a BBY employee .. I stay on here to get a lot of good information from all of you and I agree completely on the Monster cable situation. I know the mark up and know my discount. Its all about marketing folks....the internet is a great resource... I will say (because they employee me) BBY, at my store, and because I run the HT department... customer service can go a long way as well....but as cable quality goes... HDMI's are very similar, cheap and expensive

I apologize for such a newbie question but Ive been searching forums forever, here and the SONY one and some other ones also. Help me out fellas.
I'm just getting my feet wet with the HDMI thing and I have seen people asking about which cord to use for audio. I thought that HDMI was audio and video in one cord. If you you're using a HDMI, why would you need a seperate audio cord?

Thanks so much guys.

You don't, if your chain is all HDMI. BD player to TV, or BD player -> Receiver -> TV.

If your receiver is an old one with no HDMI, that's when you need an optical/coax cable or analog outs.
