Yeah that pretty crazy. Unfortunately my E-5 pay is not enough all to afford all equipment that would need all those cables.

While generally I would agree with this, I think the main reason it doesn't quite pan out for the HDMI case is that there's no error correction, like you'd expect with computer components.

Thumbs down

I love Monoprice, I don't believe a HDMI cable switch caused an improvement for you unless something was drastically wrong with your picture before.

I just received my first Monoprice cable the other day, and I cannot tell the difference between it and my Monsters. So I'm a believer now haha.

How about this for the meaning of those high priced cables...

I just picked up a Yammy V3800 from a local high-end dealer. After I got him way down on price to a point lower than I think he was comfortable with, he asked if I needed any cables. When I said, "Nope. I'm all set." (because I had just stocked up at Monoprice), he said, "My manager is gonna kill me!"

I'm presuming that he said that because he knew he wouldn't be able to recoup the price of the receiver from the super-high markup on the cables.

I thought this was very interesting and telling at the same time. Can't wait to hook everything up this week with my new HDMI cables!

HDMI 1.3 is like 350mhz signal. Low bandwidth honestly. That's why HDMI cables come in 30 foot lengths too... there's nothing special or pressing about the specs... I am sure McGyver could make a better cable than monster with pennies, saliva, baking soda, and a hair pin... gimme a break. HDMI is actually fairly low bandwidth in comparison to lots of stuff. A $10 cable would be fine too... going to monster has totally no benefit other than look and feel. Actually... maybe monster is worse because the cable is so ridgid it'll wear out the connectors quicker... who knows ;-)

I swear if HDMI ever became fiber people would still buy monster because every photon counts?? It won't matter if there are a trillion photons per bit. It's purely digital... only a crappy cable could ever lose a single bit and because it is probably a differential set there's no way you'd lose a bit of information even on a crappy $2 cable. I wouldn't worry about it.

Now saying that... I did not buy monster... I bought some Rocket brand... but it's all I could find locally. Now that I know there's tons of stuff available, I would get a $10 cable online next time :-)

Default Question about hdmi cables

hi guys, this is my first post. Thank you guys for allowing me to join such a wonderful and informative community. After lurking around this website for a while, I decided to buy a Sony KDL-46XBR5. Now, I'm trying to upgrade all my other components to make sure everything matches onto my new tv. Are there any specific surge protectors that I should get or avoid?

Does a ps3/xbox360 need a special kind of hdmi cable? Or any kind of hdmi cable would work on them? Lastly, any suggestions for the hdmi cables that support 1.3/120mhz ?

Thank you!

Of course you can use it on your PS3 using one for my PS3 right now, Monoprice is the best place to pick up any sort of cables. I'm sure you will get the same response from several of us.

Ditto Monoprice!

Great choice on the TV! As you upgrade your other componentw, be sure to get a receiver with HDMI switching ... beware of HDMI "pass thru" which will not handle audio.
The Sony STR-DA 810 or 910 (6.1 & 7.1) are very good and very inexpensive. These will soon be replaced by the 820 & 920, both 7.1, and featuring all the new audio formats.
Good luck!

Default Monoprice convert

Just to throw a little more gasoline on the Monoprice fire...I had been reading this forum for a few months and saw all the praise for Monoprice HDMI cables. I was dead set that Monsters MUST be better, there was no friggin' way that a $5.00 cable could be as good as the allmighty Monster at 20+ times the price. I pryed a few bucks out of my wallet and bought a few from Monoprice. I have one hooked up to the BD player and one on an upconvert DVD player. There is not a damn bit of difference. I will soon be using one on the cable box too. GREAT price, great product, convenient lengths and cool colors too. I now consider them a no brainer and thanx to all who helped brainwash me to the truth.
