Man just had to share my experience today. I was in Frys and I overheard the little sales guy talking to a guy about Monster Cables. He was like "dude, you spent xxxx amount on your new tv but you wont spend $90 on cables?" I had to jump in and say something. The guy looked helpless and about to buy them, I told him about all the places online and thanked me so much. I did my good deed for the day

Hope monoprice.com was among the few you mentioned. They have killer deals on HDMI cords

Well, i have a Samsung LCD 40 inches full HD and Sony 300 blu-ray player. I have tried with several HDMI cables (including a Monster standard HDMI, the old white one, expensive one like all Monster cables), some of other companies, but last week i got a Sony HMDI (white cable). I'm impressed how much diference a cable can do. This new Sony is by far the best i have got, the picture quality is impressive in most of the blu-ray discs and it's by far better than Monster cable. I'm happy now with my new Sony HDMI cable.

I got a Sony BDP-S350 the other day and it came with a free 10' HDMI cable. However, the packaging on the cable doesn't say if it is category 2 or v1.3 or anything. The monoprice cables I got have v1.3 stamped on the cable itself but this one doesn't have the version stamped on it, just the AWG and stuff. Is there any way to determine what version cable it is?

It shouldn't matter much. An HDMI cable at that length is an HDMI cable.

so I don't need to worry about DTS-HD MA having problems if it is a sub 1.3 cable? I know most category 2 cables are the same, but I wasn't sure if i would have problems with a non category2 cable.

Shielding?

I have a ps3 and a hd sat box connected to my HK avr 247 via hdmi, then hdmi out to the tv. My current hdmi cables are 1.1 and my receiver is 1.1a I think. The ps3 is 1.3 to my understanding. I was wondering if there is there any advantage of upgrading to 1.3 hdmi cables with my set up?

On a specific note, I find from time to time that when watching Hd Tv there can be a small lip sync delay. I did read somewhere that 1.3 hdmi cables would help with this. However, if my receiver isn't 1.3 then would this nullified. Thanks for any feedback.

well, without going into depth on hdmi cable versions...HDMI cables are more or less ...they work or they don't.

that being said, for the price at monoprice.com, you may as well pick up a bunch anyway.

But do you think I will benefit from getting the 1.3 over the 1.1 or I will not notice any difference with the lip sync issue? If I were to get new cables, which gauge is recommended?

You should be able to adjust the timing on your receiver to compensate for any sync issues, I know it is that way on mine. I don't think a new cable is going to help...

well, lip sync is a critter I honestly could no help you with, there may be a lip sync setting inside the receiver.

as far as gauge is concerned...anything under 10ft I would just get the 28awg.

anything longer you would want 24awg-22awg. But keep in mind those are pretty thick cables...and do not bend easily.

I love HDMI cables. Lip-sync issues are among the worst things that you can experience!

Yeah, you have an "A/V sync delay" setting on your receiver. That is what you want to adjust.

Big File!!

Quote:
NOTE: The AVR 247 is also capable of setting a different type
of delay, called A/V Sync Delay, which is used to compensate
for lip sync problems that may occur when a video display
device or set-top box causes delays while digital video signals
are processed. It simultaneously adds a delay to all speaker
channels in the system. A/V Sync Delay is not set during
EzSet/EQ. It may be set while watching a program as follows:
press the Delay Button on the remote and the first setting
displayed is A/V Sync Delay. Press the Set Button to select it
and then use the ^/v Buttons to adjust it.
