They basically all do the same thing my friend just choose one! I bought an HDMI cord from Walmart made by phillips and the quality is great i have one that runs from the Tv to Blu ray and one that one runs from tv to hd direct tv receiver. No joke the HDMI made by phillips only ran me $14.99 a piece. Do the math.

F*** Monster. I get all my cables from bluejeanscable.com. Excellent quality, excellent customer service, great prices. Monster is for sales people.

HDMI is digital, dont waste money on digital cables, the differences are small if any.
Component is analog, good cables show their worth.

It's really so simple.

Im not sure the exact technical specifications - but all I know is, the $30 Philips HDMI cable I bought from Wal-Mart offers no picture or audio difference than the $100 Monster I had when I first got into Blu-Ray. Both are 1.3.

And that $30 Philips HDMI cable is likely just as good as my $5 HDMI cable. The only time it's worth paying a premium for a `better' HDMI cable is when dealing with long distances.

Q. What is the difference between a “Standard” HDMI cable and a “High-Speed” HDMI cable?

# Standard (or “category 1”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 75Mhz, which is the equivalent of a 1080i signal.
# High-Speed (or “category 2”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 340Mhz, which is the highest bandwidth currently available over an HDMI cable and can successfully handle 1080p signals including those at increased color depths and/or increased refresh rates.

HDMI 1.3 is mostly marketting hype

...even most category 1 cables can pass 1080p signal.

Exactly. Most of this is marketing hype. All of the Monoprice cables I've seen can easily pass a 1080p signal no matter hwat category they are.

Monoprice is actually replacing all the cables they sell with Cat 2 cables anyway and they are inexpensive.

...yeah, I caught that after I posted. (but its a good link for those looking for cables).

am I saying that all HDMI cables are the same...physically no, but fundamentally yes. People can say all day long "well so and so cable has better build quality" yadda yadda yadda...

but at the end of the day, its a digital signal...and has anyone honestly ever seen an HDMI cable falling apart?

most any cable will be fine.

Thank you for the assistance; OK, so ANY HDMI cable can pass 1080p VIDEO....yes? As for the AUDIO, I DO have a receiver that is 1.3 capable -- the Onkyo TX-SR605, so while I am not using the RECEIVER'S decoding capabilities with its internal decoding yet because my player cannot output bitstream high res signals, I AM sending the receiver PCM signals for high res audio....DO I NEED SPECIAL CABLES FOR THIS TRANSFER? I have a Monster HDMI link between receiver and Blu-ray player now, and audio all transfers over fine from what I can hear.

No, you don't need any special cables for that HD audio.

Monster cables tout GB/sec speeds on their packages and people feel safe that their cable has so much bandwidth. Don't be suckered in by a salesmen or fancy packages. Looking on monsters website they claim only their 1000 series is capable for the 120hz screens, x.v. color, HD audio, among other things.

When you boil it down... 1's and 0's are just that, 1's and 0's

Thanks guys, for the replies...

So, what does it boil down to? ALL HDMI cables will pass 1080p and high res audio?

Yup. I've never tried any from http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ but from what I've heard they are great cables and they don't stick it to you. There's another site people like around here, forgot the name of it though. Either place would be a good choice. We wouldn't lead you astray.

Thank you; I appreciate that.

But when you say "yup," you mean any HDMI cable will pass the full 1080p video and I don't really have to worry about "speed ratings" and all that for audio transfer?
