USA What about shielding?

Don't the higher end monsters, etc. protect the signal from dot-crawl, etc.? When I switched to high-end monsters the "shimmering" in the corners of some screens disappeared and dots crawling upward on the logo screen on my blu-ray player stopped moving...Monster has a video of something called an "eye pattern" which measures interference w/ different cables. Aren't these cables designed by engineers? Maybe I'm missing something.

"It may be all 1's and 0's, but what is being sent over that cable is electric current. When too much current is sent over a shabby cable the device on the other end can't tell what is a 1 and what is a 0. The end result is video that is either jittery, full of digital snow, or flat-out not there."-Monster Cable

Is this true or not?

Yes and No...There IS a threshold at which point devices can't tell if they're getting a 1 or a 0, but it is extremely forgiving (compared to analog) so it's not nearly as "sensitive" as they're making it sound. For short lengths, just about anything will work, and for longer runs you have to pay attention to quality of cable, but quality does not equal cost.

But the statement is true. Meaning, if you have a poor cable, it will be obvious in the picture (jittery, snow, not there). However, as Crack stated above, the cable will NOT make colors more vibrant or the picture sharper as some around here have claimed. For these folks, the mind sees what it thinks it should see.

Alright somebody pulleese point me toward some very good HDMI cable 12 feet in length from monoprice. There's just way too many kinds to filter thru at monoprice! And what in tarnations is 22AWG thru 28AWG all about? Why cant life be a lil simpler! I'm getting my TV mounted and I need atleast four HDMI cables. Willing to spend $100.

AWG stands for American Wire Gauge. Basically the smaller the number, the thicker the conductor (wire, strand, what have you).

This is certified 1.3 and CL 2 (so it can be run in a wall) 12 ft, 24 AWG. :

First One

Or you could go with this one which is cheaper, but has the ferrite core things on each end and is 28 AWG:

Second Choice

Either one would work fine for you I'm sure.

That's a matter of personal choice. I prefer to go with 22-24 even in short lengths, but It's more out of paranoia than necessity. I'm sure 28 would work just fine.
