Blue Jeans Cable also supplies some very good quality, reasonably priced cables. Their Belden Series 1 is like a dryer power cord . Probably doesn't make any difference, but I like it anyway, and they're relatively cheap.

they since the same since theyre all digital, stores like best buy only carry them so they mark up prices for profit..

buy the cheapest one you can check out website the guy named above.
I'd like to modify that, but only slightly: There is SOME quality difference--but NOT enough to matter for ordinary 3-to-6-foot runs. And definitely not enough to justify Best Buy's markup on even their store-brand cables, much less Monster.

If you need a 50-to-100-foot run where high quality is needed to stay on the "digital cliff" over a long distance, the best quality is at www.bluejeanscable.com. Other than that, www.monoprice.com is just fine; all of mine are from there (except the free one that came with my Vizio TV). Both of them (especially Monoprice) are FAR cheaper than Best Buy, even after shipping.

You might want to check out this thread.

Don't buy the one from best buy, buy from Monoprice.com and then send me the difference

WoW...made for Blu-ray players huh!?!?!

It's a digital signal. The cable is a conduit for binary information (1's and 0's) so your tv, blu-ray player and receiver will see 1's and 0's whether they are clear or fuzzy.

THAT is why it really doesn't matter what kind of HDMI cable you use.
Monoprice.com offers an excellent product with a very high build quality at a S-T-O-O-P-I-D price.

The only "old guard" high end pro tip I would still recommend is that you get them gold tipped. Other than that, you are perfectly fine NOT spending 50 dollars on your cable. Buy two movies instead.

Welcome to the site by the way and welcome to The BluWorldOrder

+1. I have used BJ for a lot of stuff over the years and never had a problem with anything. And you're right, that cable is thick.

Yes, what a scam, they're putting a blu-ray logo on their cables... 'cause we all know they're no good for use with blu-ray.

They're marketing them specifically for blu-ray...which we all DO know is a load of crap. Then they're charging 14x what they're actually worth. Yet another steaming pile.

But if you fall for it...at least you'll be looking at a pretty blue cable with a blu-ray logo on it. Wait, nevermind...you're not supposed to be looking at your cables. You're supposed to HIDE them. (and here we have the requisite rolleyes smiley: )

I'm going to buy few monoprice 24AWG HDMI and replace the black netting and blue and starting selling for $20 rather then $10 and tell people this is the only cable you can use for your Blu player! LOL

Well, from marketing perspective it is a good move by Monster. The cable matches the BluRay player, it has the same logo and it looks good; color coordinating the cable, logo, and the plug is also a nice touch. On the surface this look like a good move and it will make people who don't know better buy it. Nice marketing move Monster....

Just for the record, I use Blue Jeans or Monoprice cables...

But if you're just enough of a moron to fall for it...at least you'll be looking at a pretty blue cable with a blu-ray logo on it. Wait, nevermind...you're not supposed to be looking at your cables. You're supposed to HIDE them. (and here we have the requisite rolleyes smiley: )
Yes, we should all get out our pitchforks and torches over the use of commercial logos, as they imply that theirs is the only one that works. We need to boycott all those receivers that have HDMI, XM, DTS-HD, etc. logos on them, because they're implying that without those logos, it won't support that feature... or, we can calm the hell down and not over-react to something that doesn't matter, and not get so carried away with Monster-hate that we must gripe over things that are not a problem (you're reading something into it that just isn't there)... and let's not call people morons just because they don't see what the big hairy deal is with trademark logos on cables.

The difference is, as a rule only items with those logos--or at least what they represent--will work as advertised. (Monoprice cables do have the HDMI logo; even if they didn't, they're still HDMI cables.) But an HDMI cable with a BD logo is *NOT*--I repeat, *NOT*--necessary to watch BDs in full HDMI quality!

At least someone gets it.

Let the Monster-hate continue. No one said they make a bad product. Quite the contrary. They are just far too proud of it, and are ripping people off...taking advantage of the unaware.

I think they should load all their cables onto an old ass-drawn cart & sell them on the street...next to the magical elixir.

The BluRay logo on the cable is meaningless from the technical perspective. It is an HDMI cable and as such, it confirms to the HDMI and not to the BluRay specification. Most certainly any good quality HDMI cable will perform well; the Monster's cable is just prettier and it's right next to the BluRay players and/or HD TVs in most places.

The perception that people have about this Monster cable will sell a lot of them. It's not because they are morons; it's simply because they don't know better and nor do they want to know more than they need to. Ignorance is a blessing; Monster marketing and big chain stores exploit this as long as they can. At one point or another we've all been "taken" by this type of marketing; it may not be HDMI cable, it could be something else. Calling people names for puchasing a brand and hating a company for their excellent marketing skills is childish at best...

Agreed 100%.

If I were Monster I'd be milking this thing all the way to the bank! And more power to them! Every manufacturer makes claims or presents their product to entice customers. Monster is no different!

In fact, Monoprice and BJC fall into the same category, except from the other side of the spectrum. It's still all about marketing and these companies are successful because they have winning strategies.
