Signal wise your not going to see a difference assuming the cable is built correctly & meets specifications just make sure the cable is no longer than 1.5 or 2 mtrs & that the cable is V1.3 compliant.
Having said that you don't wan't to buy the cheapest HDMI cable either like $5 cable made in China cause the manufacturing process might not be the best, I once bought a cheap cable & had issues with drop outs & freezing. The only reason cables are expensive is cause the way they are built and the way they are terminated some feature silver-plated copper conductors, some feature double & even triple shielding which eliminates RFI (radio frequency interference) and EMI (electromagnetic interference) etc, etc, etc & of course cause they are a little heavier & might look good, I don't have a problem buying a more expensive cable. We tend to spend a bit $$$$$ on our systems so spending a bit of $$$ on a cable doesn't hurt me, just my opinion ![]() Last edited by Yautja; 09-25-2009 at 09:55 PM. |

I suggest that anyone who is thinking of spending their hard earned dollars on over priced cables take a look at this first.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIf8HLZK6a8&feature=fvw Monster cable is a total waste of money as are any high priced cables. |

When shopping for HDMI cables, the two factors to consider are: HDMI version and cables category. You mention that you want a cable that supports high speed (13 or 15.8), but the current 1.4 spec (which has not changed from version 1.3, BTW) only supports 10.2 Gbps/340MHz (TDMS), 8.16 Gbps (video), and 36.86 Mbps (audio). Maximum resolution is 2560×1600p60 in version 1.3 and 4096x2160p24 in version 1.4. Cables are broken out into two categories. Category 1 supports 720p/1080i and Category 2 supports 1080p. So, I've always been confused as to what "magic" Monster adds to their cabling to make it much different than any others. ![]() I've used Monster, Monoprice, and Blue jeans Cables. They all performed the same and I actually feel the Blue Jeans were the best constructed. |

Monster isn't the only company resposible for FUD. It seems there's a lot of it in the a/v industry. I'm fairly new to all this, but I see a lot of it. I refer specifically to what I call the "peace of mind tax". Some are willing to adopt rituals or spend more than they should for peace of mind. |

![]() ![]() ![]() What are you trying to say with these links?? Version 1.4 does not exceed the max 10.2 Gbps spec. Therefore, any cables that support bandwidth above 10.2 Gbps are sort of useless. Don't you think? |

I'd ask you to explain how a $5 Monoprice (for example) Cat 2 cable will perform any differently than an expensive 'name-brand' cable, but I'm afraid the response would be so full of misinformation and FUD and we don't need any more of that around here confusing those who are truly looking for good advise. |

i've heard that all hdmi cables are the same but i get one that it say it runs 5gbps. i have a ps3 and i just bought cloverfield on blu ray and the definition of the picture is not well, I have a hd tv that supports 1080p and my ps3 has the latest software update and i'm thinking to buy a hdmi cable from sony, am i doing right or what else could be the problem, I got all the video settings to see the blu ray movie on the most pristine quality. HEEELP!!!!

Cloverfield can be a difficult film for a lot of televisions because of the predominantlly black pallete of the film and the excess of kinetic motion.
Do you have it connected by HDMI already? If so, and you are receiving an image then that should be fine and not the issue you are experiencing? Have you calibrated your display with a Calibration disc like DVE HD Basics or had it professionally calibrated? If not, you may want to look at the suggested setting for your specific display in order to maximize the panels contrast and shadow detail. If your display is not properly calibrated it's possible that the contrast setting is crushing or mitigating detail that would normally be present. |
