Why can't we all just use DisplayPorts? Do they even transfer audio? Because I'm tired of this HDMI thing.

Personally, I like what I've heard about that new optical connection being pushed by Intel and Apple. Of course I've only heard enough to get my interest, not enough to be certain it will be as great as the two companies pushing it say it will be, but it sounds better than HDMI in pretty much every way.
The big problem is that, no matter what might replace HDMI, HDCP or something similar will still be involved and that is the biggest source of problems with HDMI. I would love to have a better connector with less potential problems specific to the physical characteristics of the cable and connection, but solving all of that still leaves handshake issues and all of the other joys of dealing with overzealous copy protection. this may have been discussed already but theres way to many pages to read through. is there a way to split two hdmi devices (cable and blu-ray) into one hdmi port? i did a quick google and the first splitter i found said it should only be used to split one signal into two TVs and not the other way around. is this how all splitters are or is there a way to do this?

The only issue I ever had was with the rigid/thick Monoprice HDMI cables. You cannot curve those cables too much, otherwise a lot of pressure is placed on the AVR HDMI connection. In my case, pushing my AVR in my rack too close to the wall curved the cable too much and cracked my AVR connector!! I had to take it in to get repaired. The solution to this problem was a simple HDMI coupler which Monoprice also carries here.

Does anyone know of any known issues with these 2. After I bought the TV my Onkyo never displayed video properly again but sound was fine. i wound up buying a Pioneer vsx1019. I'm just wondering if the Onkyo's HDMI video scaler just died? Very confused. The Pioneer works fine btw.

I had to go in Blockbuster last night, and while I was there I was browsing through the used games for sale. While I was looking at the PS3 display I almost fell over when I saw HDMI cables hanging on the rack for sale for $10 each for a 2 meter cable. That was the regular price. I didn't recognize the brand and don't remember the name of it now though. A little more expensive than monoprice, but if I really needed a cable right now....

Just picked up a set of HDMI cables from Walmart. Unlike the last ones I got from Walmart these worked! I plugged the cable into the HDMI port on the side of my tv and ran it to my HD cable box and presto!!! The last HDMI cord I tried that with it didnt work causeing the picture on the screen to split in 2. Talk about weird. At first I was worried because I thought it was my HDMI port on the tv. Well this was proven wrong. I went with Phillips and again it works like a charm. I know my cable box only goes to 1080i and some say just to stick with the composit cables because there is no visable difference but to me an HDMI cable clears up clutter and the less clutter the better!!!

For a 25' run, make sure is CL2 rated and I would look at nothing less than 26 AWG for the thickness of the cable....but that is just me. I prefer 24AWG to be honest......

Thanks for the quick response. What is the differences between the two, and why do you prefer 24AWG over 26AWG.

Unfortunately Monoprice seems to have little options in 25ft range and HDMI 1.3a specification if you don't need 1.3a there are a few more 1.2a options available. 1.3a high end low end out of stock until 2/15/10 1.2a standard cable flat cable 25ft is a long run so this cable may be easier to hide or run underneath things. |
