Don't go making fun of the colors just yet. It's a total disaster of cables behind my ET stand and switching my HDMI cables all to colors other than black really helps if I ever need to disconnect or rearrange components. I've been recommending to everyone I talk to about it for the last year or so to go with colored cables if there's a choice.

FWIW, I had been hunting around for inexpensive HDMI cables at various local brick & mortar retail stores. Those things are just not cheap if you don't purchase by mailorder. I tried Best Buy, Target, Walmart and even Home Depot. It's almost impossible to find anything under $20. But it was Menards that had the best prices by a long shot. They offered several different ones for under $12.

Unfortunately, Menards does not have an online inventory catalog but if you need HDMI cable now and cannot wait for mail go to that store.

If and when I re-arrange my rats nest behind my TV, I will give serious thought to new colored cables.....it does make it a lot easier to ID what cable is hooked up to what device.

I wish I could go to menards. The closest is about a 7 hour drive from me. Every time I go west I make a point to go to one.

Relative newbie here and need some help. Does anyone have an opinion on the HDMI's that Costco sells? I'm about at wits end with the video quality that is coming out of my cable box at the moment. My 360 and BD look fine, but I might be willing to switch those out if anyone has any suggestions. Also, is there anyway to sticky recommended HDMI's in the first post or something? Thanks in advance.

Just order your cables from Bluejeans:

http://www.bluejeanscable.com/

or Monoprice:

http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp

And make sure their certified Category 2 High Speed.

I saw that it was recommended by 9-of-11 reviewers, and thought "What the heck???"

Then I saw the first user review....
Quote:
I bought this cable for my for my winter get away in Greece. Finally, a cable that can display pictures in true 1080p! Lightning bolts, spears, and the Blu-Ray of 300 now plays with near flawless fidelity on my 74" Plasma screen. Originally my $10 Dynex cable couldn't handle the raw skin frightening raw electricity of my movies and adult "reality" shows.....but not any more! I'm planning to buy another one as a solstice gift for my daughter this summer in Athens.
What's great about it: can handle thunderbolt amounts of electricity
What's not so great: wife will accuse you of impregnating mortals

I liked this one for the AudioQuest Carbon 65.6' HDMI Cable - Platinum White:
Quote:
Shopping for holiday gifts this year seemed like a daunting task until I came across this HDMI cable. The funny thing is, I was planning on restricting my budget this year for gifts and I was having trouble finding a product I could buy that would be easy to buy and still a great gift. I first looked at this AudioQuest HDMI cable with skepticism as I thought the price was too good to be true. Like the other reviewer, I had no issues filling out the paperwork, and getting a small personal loan for this cable. After a couple of weeks, when I received it, I compared it to my $1.34 HDMI cable and I was completely blown away! The audio and video quality was the same but this cable from AudioQuest is an extra 33' longer which is well worth the additional $2200. After seeing what this cable can do, I was motivated to buy them for all my friends. I took out a second mortgage on my house and sold my car and ordered several of these cables right away! I know my friends are going to be happy this holiday season because those other cheap cables just aren't long enough, which ruins the experience because you know that that cable's slack isn't coiled up in a noticeable pile behind your TV.
I wonder if he's looking for more friends.

crap.... I wrote a really long review that I was going to cut/paste here, but It hasn't shown up on their site yet, and I can't get to it via "my account" so I'll have to wait!

It had to do with it not being in-wall rated, but I used it for "Clockwise-elliptical-signal-transmission" Just like the pro's

DidgitalFoundry Vs HDMI

Quote:
To conclude then, it's fair to say that the advent of HDMI has effectively made the era of stupendously expensive AV cables with dubious-quality claims somewhat obsolete. That £1.50 (including delivery) cable from Amazon will do sterling work for your Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or media PC - and if it is in some way not up to the job, you'll see it immediately in the form of obtrusive digital artifacting. Only if you're attempting some seriously long connections will a custom cable be required - and even then, the chances are there is an inexpensive version available that will do the job just fine.
'nuff said really.....

A little sticky label with a note on it stuck to the cable does the job just fine but each to their own

The reviews on this cable are the best, I laughed out loud....read this one..

I went ahead and splurged on this cable as a "gift to me" at Christmas... it's been wonderful. However, I would definitely suggest taking out an insurance policy on this cable. I now pay an additional 50$ a month on my home owners policy just for the peace of mind that this thing is protected. (I had to give up my health insurance to cover the additional cost but hey, who has time to get sick when your watching the most premium picture quality a cable can provide.)
I thought this one was the best....LOL!

A sticky is better than nothing, but nowhere near as easy as individually colored cables. Besides if you're pulling a cable with sticky tabs on them out of/through a mess of other cables the stickies tend to get pulled off. Ask me how I know.

I have a feeling those are Best Buy employees typing in those comments on that website to make a sell, it has to be. I really do believe companies will type in their own comments under products to make customers believe the product is legit, they're trying to make a sell.

I guess my tongue in cheek post may not have been strong enough, as I was actually mocking the reviews......

I find it funny how the cable is not available to purchase in store, but needs to be ordered thru their website....could you imagine the sticker shock when buying a TV and needing to find an HDMI cable .

Appreciate you helping me out, glad someone around here is. Do you recommend any particular one? You mentioned Category 2, where do I look for that info? I'm kind of new to this and not sure what I'm looking for in either site?
