Did you try another cable? Were any settings changed? Try to set up two of the same players so you can switch it back and forth, and make sure the settings are the same. This is great... Just think you need to keep going to truly confirm this.

I looked up Audioquest cables and the reviews weren't exactly awesome for them. I use some hdmi cables I picked up at a local store, I think Philips brand, and have done so since I've had an HDTV, so at least 7 years. I've bought new ones over time for other TVs and I haven't had any issues and the picture is quite sharp and accurate. I would have to see a side by side comparison that blows my mind before I'd spend nearly $300 on cables.

I guess it's been long enough around here that it's not surprising some AV "genius" comes back in claiming all of the usual visual improvements BS regarding HDMI cables. Obviously, this individual either failed to read through this thread to fully understand how an HDMI cable works or is simply not capable of understanding the facts.
To simplify: An HDMI cable will NOT make blacker blacks, colors brighter, the image softer/sharper, improve contrast or improve brightness. Regardless of what you THINK you saw, it's just not the case with a digital signal and has been proven time and again. If the picture is clear, with no snow, sparklies, etc., the cable is doing what it was designed to do. |

My belief is that video and sound quality can be increased when an HDMI cable uses higher quality connectors, shielding and internal cable materials. These factors contribute to increased SNR which can positively affect BER levels of digital transmission. http://www.fiberoptics4sale.com/word...-ratio-tester/ |

I couple years ago I did my own test to see if HDMI cables made a difference. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ht=my+personal and AudioQuest cables were used along with a tour of the factory. I did not test against a Dynex. It was a Monoprice and my conclusion was there wasn't a bit of video difference from what I could see between all the cables used. Possibly, You had a bad Dynex cable. Did you switched it out to try another? If not, your testing is incomplete. m |

And there seems to be a lot of people stating the opposite findings when experimenting between more and less expensive cables. |

Generally the more expensive cables have a 10% to 100% silver wire content.
Such as: AudioQuest's Carbon, Coffee, and their Diamond WireWorld's Starlight, Silver Starlight and their Platinum Starlight and other makes. Mr. Miller (President of AudioQuest) told me that the video of the more expensive cables will not be any different than the less expensive cables. Where the difference lies is between the expensive cables is in audio. The wires that run the length of the expensive cables are generally 10% to 100% silver making a major leap in audio not video. m Last edited by JimShaw; 04-10-2012 at 11:19 PM. |

Once independent and controlled studies prove picture quality (color, contrast, brightness, sharpness, etc.) can be positively affected by an HDMI cable, I'll be happy to read them and reconsider my position. Any links proving this, yet? And that linked BER article is irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Of course data loss will result in problems. That's what happens when you see sparklies, snow, dropouts, crackling, etc. with poor quality cables. It has NOTHING to do with video/audio quality aspects other than that, and nowhere is that claimed. |

Took this picture / screen shot yesterday. This is a 25 foot HDMI cable I bought for 25 dollars (Brand new) at a computer store outlet. I think it runs from my receiver to the projector
