You may be right. I've read Favreau say one thing and Feige say another. I would believe they wouldn't want to go that dark with IM.

I think they said that Iron Man 2 builds up to the demon in a bottle story and then Iron Man 3 will deliver.

that's what I assume, he did say they want to conserve the general tone of the original, and fleshing out that storyline completely wouldn't allow them to do so

Probably until The Avengers hits.
I have a sneaking feeling that The Avengers could be the be all and end all of comic book movies, as nothing will ever be as good as it.

RIght now, the way the current Marvel Universe is going, Avengers is getting bigger than X-Men, so to the average person, there is a huge chance it will be recieved with open arms.

If these rumours are true.... I don't even know what to say. This will be the coolest thing ever put on film.

I dunno, Marvel has some work to do to win back audiences, X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3 did well in the box office but it's not because most people enjoyed the movies. Incredible Hulk and Iron Man helped, an improved Iron Man sequel would help a lot too.

Well X-men 3 and Spider-Man 3 were from other studios and most people know that Marvel didn't exactly have much (any?) say in the quality of those films.
The only two movies Marvel has made have been home-runs, and it looks like Iron Man 2 will deliver as well.

I think Marvel Studios has a great standing with the fans.

They do with this fan. If they can take an arguably second tier star in Iron Man and make him as big as they have, I have ultimate faith in what they are doing.

Now if only DC could get their act together it would be comic-geek utopia.

Watchmen
Dark Knight
Batman Begins
I would argue those are a HUGE step in the right direction and I would go into more detail but this is a Marvel thread. Honestly? I never read Iron Man much as a child and I had misgivings about the movie but it turned out to be much better than I expected, aside from how he "won" the final battle. Hoping he'll be able to handle his business without help from his girlfriend in the next one.

That is 3 for DC/WB, two from one guy.

They have A LOT of work to do to be up to par with the Marvel Universe movies

Batman has always been a popular character, even after the Schumacher fiascoes. And Watchmen isn't a franchise it's a one-off. But you're right those are positive steps, but I was more talking about Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, and mainly Superman.

Marvel took a character that no one really knew in Iron Man and made him a household name. I just wish DC would do the same.

DC has THE superhero of superheroes in Superman and haven't been able to do anything with him.

Sorry, I know this isn't a thread about DC or Marvel vs. DC, I just felt the need to explain myself in greater detail.

His movie better kick some serious @$$!!!!

I definitely agree with you though, Marvel does seem better at adapting their characters to movies.

The only constant DC has is Batman (and they screwed him up twice).

Batman, Green Lantern, Superman
I prefer them all over the Marvel characters, but Marvel (and the others studios for the most part) has done a much better job at bringing the characters to life.

I knew NOTHING about Iron Man before the movie, and when I say nothing, I mean nothing. Barely knew what the suit looked like if I recall correctly. And now I absolutely love the character. Until DC/WB can pull that off, they will always be a step behind in my book. I'm really hoping they do so with Green Lantern though since I would love a Green Lantern pair of movies or trilogy.

I love Iron Man, and based on the current poll on the right, so do most Screen Rant readers. So if you’re a fan of the movie and have a spot to display something big (and plenty of room on your credit card), you’re going to love this: It’s a 1/2 scale (yes, one half scale) replica of the Iron Man Mark III armor from the film.

It comes from Sideshow Collectibles, who we’ve highlighted here before due to the awesome products they carry and the quality of what they choose to select for their site. The actual creator of this piece is a little company called Legacy Effects. Never heard of them? You might recognize them by their former name: Stan Winston Studios.

This half-scale maquette was used to develop the original screen-used costume. Sideshow collaborated with Legacy Effects to create this for collectors, capturing the awesome detail of Iron Man’s armor. Each piece is individually painted and finished, each with its own unique quality and detail that is the trademark of a handcrafted Sideshow Collectibles product.

This bad boy stands about 40 inches tall and is crafted from polystone, fiberglass, metal and other materials to best recreate the Iron Man armor as authentically as possible. It includes LED light-up eyes and heart to add realism. The Iron Man Mark III Half-Scale Maquette is an awesome Iron Man collectible, if you can afford it.

Quote:
It’s 40″ H (1016mm) x 20″ W (508mm) x 20″ L (508mm) and weighs 25 lbs (11.34 kg). That’s almost 3 1/2 feet tall… The price tag? $1,949. If I had a spot for it and my wife let me, this would be mine.

If you want to see more pics and info or to pre-order, head over to SideshowToy.com.

Agreed. But since X3 and SM3 were by different studios, Marvel itself doesn't have to do a whole lot. Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk (both by marvel productions) both did exceptionally well, respectively. Iron Man II seems to be shaping up to be bigger and better than the first.

Interesting. I didn't know they would change the name but they picked a good one.

I totally agree here.

I'm not sure what the disconnect is, but doesn't Warner own DC {or the other way around or they're both under the same umbrella of a parent company or something}?

If such is the case and they're both part of the same overall company, why do they stumble so much when they need to get the character from the comic page to film? It's getting embarrassing to be a fan of anything DC at this point.

I mean, Wonder Woman has fallen by the wayside, they can't seem to get Flash anywhere near off the ground, they made a choice that could go either way on the lead for Green Lantern, and don't get me started on JLA.

Batman seems to be the one that's carrying the company for DC with regards to comics to movies, Superman has had 2 bad movies {3 and 4} followed up some years later by one that didn't quite make it's money back. Superman is ending up being something that you just sink your money into and pray that the comic sales will go up or kids will want to buy Superman toys.

Marvel on the other hand, is Knocking them out of the park, one right after the other. They are 2 for 2 on their own, and they show no signs of slowing down, especially since the next batch of movies are basically just really big and expensive advertising campaigns for Avengers in 2012.

Very good points. I agree with everything. Not to derail the thread too far, it amazes me that they did so well with the Batman films (the two last one's) and didn't decide to try and stick to the more traditional source material with Superman Returns. I understand that Superman's sales aren't what they used to be, but a lot of that is the fact that DC and Warner Bros aren't firing on all cylinders with the character (great comic stories coupled with a great movie and marketing campaign) Maybe things will change now that Green Lantern is underway and Superman will be in process by 2011.

Back on topic; Marvel does seem to know what their doing as Logan said. Lead Blockbuster lead ins to The Avengers and if Hulk is indeed in Iron Man who knows who we'll see in Thor and Cap...
